Our School Values
Principal's Pen
I hope you are looking forward to the holiday break and take the opportunity to recharge ready for Term 3.
Before we look to next term it’s a great chance to reflect on the past few weeks.
We have just wrapped up a number of Clusters from across the region. Thanks to those families who hosted clusters. Thank you also to families and home tutors who travelled long distances across Central Queensland to provide students with the opportunity to attend clusters in Rolleston, Eidsvold, Moranbah and Rockhampton.
Our modified program students also had the opportunity to come together in Mackay and Bundaberg, and from all reports had great time at their special gatherings.
Field service activities play an important role in providing students with learning and social opportunities outside the home class room and these events will continue to remain a school priority into the future.
Our Year 10 Students participated in the Work Experience Program this week. Work Experience is a valuable opportunity for our students as an introduction to the work force and providing valuable insights into career paths.
Next term there is plenty on offer.
We kick off with the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival being held in Week 1, from the 13 – 15th July 2022. Every year our students are given the opportunity to attend this festival which is held at the Whitsunday Anglican School. This is a wonderful event and I believe our students will enjoy their time immensely.
In Week 5, 8th – 12th August 2022 we will hold our Prep to Year 4 Mini-school at both Campuses. (The Mini-school program will be released for parents and home tutors early Term 3). At the same time our Year 5 and 6 students will be with their teachers on school camp at Seaforth Pines.
All Secondary Classes will continue to run as normal during the Primary Mini-school week.
Camp for Years 7-9 to Total Adventures, Noosa North Shore will occur from the 12th – 16th September 2022 with some fantastic activities planned.
Overall another huge term to look forward to. In Term Three the school will focus a little more on health and wellbeing as this is the time when illness such as colds and flus are most prevalent. Historically it is also a time when fatigue sets in. Please continue to keep communications open with the school and your student’s class teachers.
School Opinion Survey
Between the 18th July – 12th August, parents may receive an email from the Department of Education with a link to the annual School Opinion Survey. The School Opinion Surveys are designed to obtain the views of parents/caregivers, students and school staff from each school on what our school does well and how we can improve.
Opinions on the school, student learning, and student wellbeing are sought from a parent/caregiver in all families and a sample of students from each state school.
Opinions on the school as a workplace are sought from all school staff and principals. There are additional questions for teaching staff on their confidence to teach and improve student outcomes.
Your voice would be appreciated to assist the school to ensure we continue to improve and meet the needs of your students. Surveys close 12th August 2022.
2022 Calendar and Szapp
To assist families planning, remember to stay up to date by downloading the school App ‘Szapp’ where you will find all important dates and information in the School Calendar.
Staff Changes
This week we farewell the following staff and wish them well in their future endeavours:
- Mr Ian Belz will be moving into retirement
- Mrs Helen Harmsworth
- Mrs Yuko Smith
- Mrs Loretta Gottke. Mrs Gottke commenced with the Department in 1996. We thank her for her many years of service and wish her all the best.
Finally, remember to take some time out these holidays to relax, travel safely if you are heading away and hopefully we look forward to seeing you all back online for Term 3, recharged and ready for more learning.
Kind regards
Amanda Rynne, Principal
'Sports Person of the Year Award' entries

The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the student's placing within those events.
At the end of the year, points are collated and the winner announced.
Parents are asked to advise the school of the sporting achievements by completing this online form.

Year 10 Visual Arts - Expressive Portraits
"The reason behind the name was, 'Those are my parents, my family, my life. They are where I come from, my origin.' -Mikayla Danks-Brown. The colours in the artwork are realistic and cool colours. The shades of blue were used most in the artwork. That colour was used most because it expresses the same feelings the artist has towards the sitters. Tranquility, security, trust, loyalty and faith. My portrait is a loving tribute to my parents, my origin".
"Memories are timeless, they remind us that life is filled with love and joy. My self-portrait is based on a picture. Every time I look at the picture, I think of my happy childhood. My artwork was inspired by artist Thea Anamara Perkins and the importance she places on family. The use of one non-realist colour in the portrait expresses the happiness that I was feeling and the pop in my character. The realist colours draw attention to the yellow and show the My artwork is expressive due the exaggerated yellow tone on my skin. It symbolises the happiness and joy I am feeling. My portrait is a dedicated to memories and my childhood".
"What are memories? Is it our childhood? Old times with friends? Or memories that others have of us? Throughout the term we studied the artworks of Thea Anamara Perkins. I was inspired to create my own artwork in her style. I painted a photo of myself when I was younger, it’s not a memory that I remember, but one that my family adore. The picture symbolizes growth in a way; wearing my first pig tails and dressing gown. I wanted to stick to the natural colours of my painting while creating it. I experienced some issues with the paint and colours as the pain dries multiple shades darker than its original colour. The colours are basic but also bright which I believe evens out the painting. My painting expresses the calmness of growing up. Although there are a lot of crazy moments growing up there are also the times we can cherish when it’s calm and quiet. My portrait is symbolic towards many personal things as well as the meaning on why I chose the picture".
Year 9
Jack in Year 9 designed a hoodie for the homeless. 1) a hoodie that turns into a swag. 2) a hoodie that turns into a backpack/backrest with lots of handy pockets. 3) A hoodie that turns into a tent swag.
"I plan to design a product that will help the homeless with the cold weather and bad sleeping conditions. It will be given to the homeless for free and then sold online and the money raised from people buying them will go to charity for the homeless.'
Dangers of caffeine for adolescents
Year 7 have been learning all about the effects of drugs and alcohol. They designed posters and memes to raise awareness about the dangers of caffeine for adolescents
Poem by Dangahla Year 7
Where is it?
Where is this caffeine is it everywhere
Is it in there or maybe it’s in that pear
In many cases it’s in your drink
And now you’ve probably sinked
But don’t be annoyed at this app
Because in this rap we’ll know where it’s at.
Let’s start with a tea
But you’ll have to count that as caffeine.
Next the drinks with the energy kinks.
This ones not a liquid but you still will get addicted
Its dark chocolate have you eaten it?
Last sour but sweet the old warheads treat.
Now you know where it’s contained but don’t go from your seat yet.

CSDE Cultural Snapshot
CULTURE OF AUSTRALIA
One of the most astounding Australian cultural facts is that the original Australians first established their societies on the Australian continent up to 60,000+ years ago. They have maintained their ways of life, in many ways relatively unchanged, for longer than any other current people group on Earth! Though significantly impacted by the arrival of Europeans beginning with the Dutch in the late 1600s, their traditions endure today and are a crucial part of the culture of Australia.
Heavily inspired by Aboriginal culture, the arts in Australia is a huge part of the national culture, both for citizens and for the world at large.
