Our School Values
Principal's Pen
Welcome back to Term 3.
I trust you have all had a refreshing holiday break and by the end of this week are well and truly back into the routine and your students are engaging in learning.
Term 3 is an action packed term, with students participating in Whitsunday Voices, Regional Shield, Mini-school, Year 5/6 and Year 7 - 9 Camps. CSDE strives to offer students as many opportunities as possible and students always enjoy these events. To ensure they run smoothly, we ask that parents familiarise themselves with details of events, being sure to complete and return all relevant RSVP's, forms and payments by the requested deadlines.
By now you may have received an invitation to participate in this year's School Opinion Survey. This is your opportunity to provide your opinions about our school. It is a confidential survey and available until Friday, 12 Aug, taking less than ten minutes to complete. Survey invitations were emailed to families by the Department of Education's School Opinion Survey Team.
Staffing Update:
Recruitment is almost finalised for a Secondary Deputy Principal replacing Rebecca Campbell and we hope to make an announcement soon.
Mrs Pooja Beotra has been successful in attaining an acting position at Brisbane SDE and we wish her the best for this Semester. We are in the process of recruiting an acting HOD Science to fill this vacancy.
This time of year usually brings with it an onslaught of illness, colds and flus. This year is no different and we have been experiencing large numbers of Staff away due to illness. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we undertake the mammoth task of trying to cover the absences of up to 29 staff members away daily, whilst providing as much continuity as we can. Please keep an eye out on Blackboard Announcements for any specific class changes.
Please ensure all student absences are reported to the school via one of the following methods:
- Via the Student absence widget in the Szapp.
- Email: studentabsences@caprrocksde.eq.edu.au
- Phone: 4931 4800
- SMS: 0429 824 088 (Please note this SMS number does not support photos)
Looking forward to a term focussed on supporting students through quality teaching and learning.
Kind regards
Amanda Rynne, Principal
'Sports Person of the Year Award' entries
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of Year Awards Ceremony.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the student's placing within those events.
At the end of the year, points are collated and the winner announced.
Parents are asked to advise the school of the sporting achievements by completing this online form.

CSDE Cultural Snapshot
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
How does the First Nations family kinship system work?
First Nations Australians often have a complex system of family ties, roles and responsibilities which are the core of their cultures. These systems define one’s place in the community and bind people together. They also define the obligations and responsibilities for children and their families, and how each family member is meant to support others in the kinship system. Elders bridge the past and the present by passing on their understanding, skills, knowledge and stories to the generations who follow them.
This means that caring for children is the responsibility of broader kinship networks and not just a child's biological parents. In Australia's very recent past, families and communities were separated because of the impacts of colonisation and the imposition of European social, political, economic and cultural structures. This caused long-term, traumatic problems for the passing down of cultural knowledge and the maintenance of social and cultural ties.
Some Torres Strait Islanders have traditional or customary adoption practices, where a child will not necessarily be raised by his/her mother. Customary adoption occurs when childless family members adopt a child so that they are given an opportunity to raise their own child. It also strengthens bonds between families and means that boys and girls can be distributed evenly between families or can provide care for an older relative.
