Message from the Principal
Dear Students, Home Tutors & Families,
As we move through the busy rhythm of school life, it’s essential to pause and reflect on what truly makes our community special—our connections with each other. In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to become consumed by schedules, deadlines, and endless to-do lists. Yet, it is in these moments that we must remind ourselves of the importance of balance, kindness, and the irreplaceable value of our relationships.
Time is one of the most precious resources we have. How we choose to spend it defines not only our day-to-day experiences but also the legacy we build for our children. Finding balance between work, school, and family life is an ongoing challenge, but it’s one that is worth every effort. Taking time to be present, to listen, and to share in each other’s lives strengthens the bonds that hold our community together.
Kindness is the foundation upon which our relationships are built. It is through acts of kindness—whether big or small—that we show our care for one another. This kindness extends beyond the walls of our school and into our homes, reminding us that every interaction is an opportunity to uplift and support each other.
As we continue to navigate the school year, I encourage you to cherish the moments spent with loved ones, nurture the relationships that bring joy, and strive to create a harmonious balance in your lives. Our school is not just a place of learning; it is a community where each person plays a vital role in shaping the experience for all. Together, let’s make the most of our time and continue to build a community rooted in love, respect, and connection.
Kind regards
Amanda Rynne
School Vision Statement Feedback
We are currently engaged in our strategic planning process, and as part of this, we are considering a slight adjustment to our school vision statement to better reflect our commitment to preparing our students for the future. The proposed vision statement is: "Supporting every student to be future ready and reach their highest potential."
We believe this addition encapsulates our dedication to equipping students with the skills and mindset needed for future success. We value your input and invite you to share your thoughts by completing a quick survey on whether you support this change or have other suggestions for our vision over the next four years. This survey will remain open until the 30th of August 2024.
Your feedback is crucial in shaping the future of our school and ensuring we continue to provide the best possible education for our students.

What's happening in Primary?
Mega HIT
Friday of Week 7 (23rd August)
Primary will be holding a Book Week Celebration.
Instead of regular HIT Lit lessons, we’ll hold two ‘Mega HIT’ classes
- one for P-2 students
- and another for 3-6 students
These will be setup in the ‘Primary Cohort’ course, run from 8:45-9:15am and replace all normally scheduled lessons.
Students are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book and share these during the lessons that follow the ‘Mega HIT’ classes that day.
Combined Year 5 - 6 Care group
For the next 8 weeks, the Central Queensland Capras will be involved in combined Year 5 - 6 Care Group sessions each week. These will be held in the Primary Cohort on QLearn at 2:00pm on each of the dates listed below. CapSDE are delivering these Youth Engagement Sessions as part of Primary's Wellbeing Programme and in response to Home Tutor feedback.
Year 3
This term for Maths we have been learning about multiplication and how to show multiplication facts in multiple ways. We have been using think boards to show a fact as an array, a turnaround, a sum, a word problem and many others. We love to get our resources out to complete hands on activities, like making our arrays, during online lessons. For our assessment, we had to create an activity or a boardgame for our class friends to practice their multiplication facts with. We have had so much fun with this unit!
Secondary Scoop
Year 8 Design and Technology
This term, students are acting as professional designers. With the help of Vans’ digital software and customisation tools, students will research, plan and design a new skate shoe which could be easily sold for Vans online and in-store. The shoe must reveal a real-world issue such as bushfires, natural disasters, flooding, cyclones or climate change. Here are some of our designs we are currently working on. Students have done a fantastic job generating ideas, creating mood boards, drawing sketches and experimenting with the digital software. I am one happy design teacher!
Mrs Semple
Year 8 Visual Arts
In Visual Arts this term students have let go of realism and have been learning about the abstract style of Pablo Picasso. Some students have embraced this style and have been practising drawing abstract facial features towards their final self-portrait. Even though students’ final artwork is not finished, their practise drawings have been of a high standard.
Ciara has been combining Picasso’s abstract style with digital art and the results have been very exciting.
Year 10 Visual Arts - Expressive Portraits
Students created an expressive portrait based on the theme of family and on the works of Australian Indigenous Artist Thea Anamara Perkins.

Grandparents

By Blake M
Digital artwork
This artwork is of my grandparents I have drawn them because they mean a lot to me and they’re my family. The person that influenced me to do this is Thea Anamara Perkins. I made this artwork digital I used PowerPoint to help me draw my grandparents using a mouse. I think my are was successful because it looks good and has the look that I wanted for this subject.
Reminiscing
2024
By Sophie B
Acrylic paint on canvas
I painted a picture of my brother and I when we were younger, sitting by the fire. The painting was inspired by the Australian Indigenous artist Thea Anamara Perkins. To create this artwork, I first took a photo and then used an app called Photopea to break down the photo to show the different tones of the image. I then printed the photo onto A4 paper and used a charcoal sheet between the printed photo and canvas to outline the different tones. After outlining the shades, I proceeded to paint the artwork. My goal was to represent the strong bond between my brother and myself. By using the style of Perkins and black and white tones, I feel I successfully represented how my brother and I are always close and how we always have each others back and stick by each other. My artwork did not go as planned but I hope in the future to further develop my skills to create better and more detailed paintings.
‘Kind and gentle’

25.5cm x 20cm
‘Kind and gentle’ is an acrylic painting on canvas showing my late grandfather. Throughout the making of this painting, I was inspired by the Australian indigenous artist Thea Anamara Perkins.
Through this artwork I hoped to honour my grandfather's 6th year memorial anniversary. I wanted to try and capture not only his gentle nature but his personality in a portrait
Hidden Personality
2024
By India P
Acrylic paint on canvas
My artwork ‘Hidden personality’ shows a kid in the dark holding something above their head. It is trying to portray my attitude as a little girl.
I wanted to create a piece where it expressed my young self and highlighted my interesting personality. To show something I've hidden.
Big Brother
2024
By Ava R
Acrylic paint on canvas
My acrylic artwork Big Brother is inspired by the particular style of Thea Anamara Perkins, a young Indigenous woman who represents her family and ancestry archive and First Nations people in her works.
The supposed meaning was mostly directed to my older brother. Big Brother captures me and him as young children, sitting in front of a relaxed kangaroo, smiling and giggling at the creature together. I cannot say I remember this moment myself, but I know that my big brother has guided me and supported me through my life, even if he is distant nowadays.
Untitled

Digital artwork
My Artwork is a picture I took of my baby sister Hannah, my artwork was inspired by Thea Anamara Perkins and her artwork of Poppy Chicka, Thea Anamara Perkins has different shades of different colours and we can see Poppy Chicka has a delightful smile, I have tried to do something similar of my sister Hannah and so I have added different shades of black, grey and white, My artwork was taken when my sister Hannah was being a cute cheeky ratbag by jump around on the top of the couch, yelling and laughing. But overall, in the future this artwork will remind me of all the happy and joy able times Hannah, and I had together and with our other siblings, and how she would have all her cute singing and dancing Infront of the family while we would listen to music or when we would watch her favourite Kiddies TV shows.
Gotcha
2024
By Georgia G
Acrylic paint on canvas
My artwork, ‘Gotcha!’ is an expressive portrait of myself, holding a camera up to the viewer’s eyes. Its use of expressionism is seen where instead of precise colour matching, there is a variation.
Untitled
2024
By Jacinta D-A
Acrylic paint on canvas
My artwork is me on my motorbike at the local trail ride about to head off. This artwork holds personal memories for me which inspired me to paint it.
My artwork expresses many emotions for me because this was a happy moment for me. I have been riding motorbikes with my dad since I was young, so I wanted to show those memories through this artwork. This photo was taken at the trail ride, and I spent the entire day riding having fun, so this is a good memory to express through a painting.
The painting is special and holds a lot of memories.

What's on in your community
Approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. Between 20 and 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury. Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years. The main reason behind these road accidents is not following or knowing traffic and road safety rules.
Trafficquiz.com is a free-to use website developed with the aim of spreading awareness regarding traffic rules and road safety rules. Through trafficquiz.com, students can learn and test their knowledge about traffic and road safety rules in an entertaining way, i.e., by playing quizzes. Teachers and parents can also use trafficquiz.com regularly to refresh their knowledge about traffic, road safety, and child safety rules. School bus drivers can also regularly use it to learn and be conscious about following traffic rules. The benefit of being online is that trafficquiz.com can be used anytime, anywhere, on any device.
Check out the links given below so that everyone can learn and be conscious about following road safety and traffic rules. This can save many lives.
The links are as follows:
- For Age group (5 to 9 years):

- For Age group (10 to 15 years):

https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-for-adults-level-1/
- For Drivers and support staff:
https://trafficquiz.com/road-safety-quiz-for-adults-level-1/
Why is it necessary?
- About three-quarters (73%) of all road traffic deaths occur among young males under the age of 25.
- More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
- Road traffic injuries cause considerable economic losses to individuals, their families, and to nations as a whole.
Sports Person of the year award 2024
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual achievement. Do not place all achievements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised 'regional school sport' and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
