CapSDE understands the difficulty some families face when trying to purchase booklist items, whilst living remotely, or difficulty accessing stores. As a result we offer families the opportunity to purchase their booklist items through Campion online. Campion has the complete list of all items on CapSDE book lists available, with delivery before the start of school.
Due date to ensure delivery before the start of school is Friday 27th December.
Families can order online at www.campion.com.au

Using Campion for your back-to-school supplies is not compulsory, however this convenient option is available to families who may like to utilise the service. Year 6 News
This term, our Year 6 students have been crafting letters to future CapSDE students, aiming to capture a vivid sense of time and place. Through the use of rich language features, students described their lives, interests, and unique experiences. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine as they imagined connecting with the students of tomorrow!
Here is Kinley's letters, we hope you enjoy the read as much as we did.
Dear Future, Curious CSDE students of 2059,
I am extremely excited to be generously sharing a miniscule glance of what my time was like in Queensland (the sunshine state) 2024. It feels as if I am writing to someone on another, distant planet, the futuristic, mystical 2059 must be so different to the wonderful year of 2024, considering that 2024 and 2059 have a colossal 35-year age difference. I imagine I will be very old by 2059. I hope that you thoroughly enjoy briefly visiting the best about Queensland and where I live through this humble letter of mine.
I live on a picturesque cattle property 10 minutes north of St Lawrence, its moderately hot now, since it is late spring (specifically November), and the smell of the blossom’s wafts strongly through the long creeks that are riddled in the vast paddocks. I love sitting under the ginormous paper-bark trees, as it is so peaceful and pristine. All you can hear is the quiet sounds of cows grazing and storm birds crying loudly in the trees. It can be hard and unforgiving though, especially when the grass crunches dryly under your feet, like a hot fire crackling in the dry, crisp winter months.
Living on a cattle property, I absolutely love riding horses. My sister and I regularly ride our delightful horses every day, usually to get the cheeky bulls into the cooler or muster one of the paddocks of black cows into the wooden, old yards. It edges closer and closer to Summer every day, the heat creeping up from nowhere, the temperature is now ranging at 34°c, so after riding, I constantly bug tired Mum and Dad every afternoon to swim and paddle in the refreshing, cool dam. Although we travel to Mackay every single Saturday, one day of the week is not nearly enough swimming for me. I love swimming in the dam because you get to cool off after a sweltering day and float effortlessly on top of the brown, opaque dam water. It is like a miniature holiday; I can hear squeals and splashes of happiness and joy and feel them splash right onto my freckled face.
Even though we live a lengthy way from bustling cities, we still get top-class education from the best school in Queensland; Capricornia School of Distance Education which has been operating since 1993. I love learning at CSDE because you get to use the newest technology while also feeling so attached to the alluring land around you. I am always looking forward to mini-schools since we get to see our classmates and teachers face-to-face one week each term that is always crammed with fun activities. There are two campuses, one being Rockhampton which I go to, and Emerald. Both will rapidly in Week 7 this term. When you enter the welcoming steps of mini-school you are suddenly embraced with a joyous and excited atmosphere, as laughter fills the air and eager to learn faces become the only thing in view. The cheeriness is contagious as the flu and the building overflows with smiles.
In conclusion, in my appreciable life, slowed, tranquil, rural life is constantly being mixed with the contemporary wonders of the modern world, like learning and interacting in online classes, using my webcam or being able to do nearly all our school-work on a modern laptop. I immensely wish that you rigorously enjoyed your momentary glimpse into the extravagant world of 2024. I dearly hope that in the futuristic 2059 that you can still relish the simplicity and beauty of the outback while also warmly embracing the future that always lies patiently ahead. And one last inquisitive question for whomever is reading this effortful letter of mine; is 2059 as superb and fantastic as 2024?
Sincerely kind regards,
Kinley Dennis

Science
This Term’s Mouldy Bread Assessment task has been an interesting one! With reports of funny smells, gross photos and both successful and unsuccessful attempts at growing mould around the house – all in the name of science and trying to discover the best place to store bread to avoid mould growth. I am very proud of the students’ diligence and enthusiasm around the design and completion of the experiment. They have developed some excellent capability around critical thinking and problem solving in Scientific Inquiry. I am confident these skills will serve them well in the years to come. It has been my absolute pleasure teaching this cohort in 2024, and I look forward to hearing about their endeavours in the future whenever they have time to swing me an email. All the best for 2025!!
HASS
In HASS this term, our Year 6 students have been diving into the world of economics and business! They’ve been putting on their thinking caps to explore the balancing act of trade-offs and what it means to make smart, informed consumer decisions. They’ve analysed how choices affect individuals and communities and weighed up opportunity costs, to make recommendations.
As this is their final HASS unit of primary school, it’s been fantastic to see their ideas flourish as they prepare for the next exciting chapter in their learning adventure!
Maths
This Term, students have been learning about the cartesian plane and probability. They are realising that some games are not fair so you need to check the chances of an event occurring. This game caught a number of students out when we first played it (Miss H didn’t tell them that they would be using two dice 😊). So we learned to be more mindful, check calculations, know how to play the game, and above all do not select number 1 in “Cow Spotting” 😉
Year 6 Emerald mini-school
So much happened during this week with Year 6 to 7 transition; Puberty talk for some of us; Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph outside the town hall; meeting Nora Kersh author and illustrator of children’s books; CAPRAS visit which included some great games and skills development; painting and placing critters on the cow to represent our area (awesome idea Mrs Dendle!); our Japanese Teachers visited us again with a special guest (yay!); the unveiling of the Year 6’s Buddy Bench; and the tearful farewell to the year 6s (sorry everyone, Miss H was the one who triggered the tears this year).
The students played a game of “Cow Spotting” during our open class session on Friday, however we learned that even if you know the probability of the numbers appearing, it doesn’t always mean you will win - as a parent demonstrated by winning a couple of games, after all, it is random. 😊

End of Year Reflections from the Secondary Deputy - Desolee Cowley

As we approach the end of another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared. This year has been filled with growth, resilience, and remarkable achievements from our students, staff, and families alike.
One highlight has been the introduction of our new school mascot, Capri the Kangaroo! Capri represents the strength, adaptability, and community spirit that define our school. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to bringing this wonderful symbol to life!
Our students have tackled challenges with determination, embraced new opportunities, and demonstrated the values that make our school community so special. From academic success to sporting triumphs and creative endeavours, every student has contributed to the vibrant tapestry of our school.
To our families and Home Tutors, thank you for your unwavering support. Your encouragement and partnership have been vital in ensuring our students thrive.
As we prepare for a well-deserved break, I encourage everyone to reflect on their accomplishments and set new goals for the year ahead. Let’s return refreshed and ready to embrace 2025 with the same energy and enthusiasm that have defined this year.
Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and relaxing holiday season.
Warm regards,
Deputy Principal – Secondary Department
