Capricornia Cricket Carnival
CSDE students competed at the recent Capricornia Cricket Carnival.
Zander, Seb and Lawson represented Central Highlands in Rockhampton on Sunday and Monday. It was a great couple of days of cricket. Well done boys.
Congratulations to Lawson who was selected in the Capricornia team to play later in the year.
Students meet State MP - Mr Dale Last
During Week 9, Mrs Hutt’s HASS students were visited by a special guest speaker – the State Member for Burdekin, Mr Dale Last. Dale joined a Blackboard session which was attended by almost 30 students across years 4-6. The quality of the discussion was impressive, with students posing a variety of carefully considered questions such as:
“Do you think that there is more that can be done in the way of programs and funding aimed at helping and educating people on how to start and run a successful small business?” Bailey Parker
“What are your roles and responsibilities as a Shadow Minister in parliament?” Paityn Pedersen
“Have you ever worked with local councils and what did you do?” Eliza McArthur
“What can you do to help prevent youth crimes such as vandalism?’ Ella Geddes
Dale shared his life experiences as a police officer of 25 years, and advised the students to follow their passions and interests when choosing a career path. He explained the long hours and dedication involved in being a state parliamentarian, and reassured us that he understood the issues we face in our lives in relation to Distance Education, in particular internet connectivity. Ironically, we actually conducted the entire session through speaker phone into a headset as Dale’s location in Collinsville would not allow him into our Blackboard session!
Well done to the students who made the effort to attend this special session – it demonstrated your dedication to your studies and a commitment above and beyond ‘the ordinary’. Very proud of you all and the way you represented CSDE and keep up the great work in HASS!

CSDE Cultural Snapshot
Love your culture and don’t be afraid to show it
We all have a cultural heritage. Your heritage is made up of traditions and practices that are passed on from the older generation to the younger generation, or from parents to children. Your heritage is also about what has been passed on from your family, community and the place you and other people were raised in. Culture is something that will be a part of you, whether it’s your home language, respecting your elders, wearing your cultural attire, or eating the traditional food your family enjoys. It’s a part of who you are, so don’t be afraid to show it off.
Who we are today is a result of our experiences and our upbringing. However, no matter how different we are culturally, we are just human beings, still learning to understand ourselves. So, let’s learn to be accepting of others.
When we get to learn about others and respect our similarities and our differences, we get to learn so much more about not just our own but others' culture.
