Mission: Supporting every student to reach their highest potential
Primary Ponderings
We're quickly approaching what we consider to be the best weeks of the year!
Term Four is arguably the busiest of the year, and in this week’s Primary Ponderings, we thought it beneficial to give an overview of what’s happening and when.
Congratulations to the Year Five students who presented their leadership speeches, last week. Hearing these students’ ideas on how they could improve their school was pleasing. All teachers were impressed with the oratory skills that were on display. The entire Primary department would like to thank Mrs Clough, Mrs Grice, and Mrs Keenan for organising these sessions, the speeches, and all of the logistics that this important event entailed.
Week Seven will be our final Mini-school for 2022. We look forward to welcoming students and families to both campuses and to online sessions. For those attending in person, swimming lessons will be on, so please complete the required permission forms, and do what you can to send children with the correct clothing and equipment.
As for Week Nine? We felt that it really needed a timetable all of its own!
Monday 28th – Year Six Fun Day so no lessons (Timetabled lessons remain the same for all other year levels).
Tuesday 29th – Swimming Carnival – Emerald Aquatic Centre – 11:00AM – 2:00PM
Tuesday 29th – CSDE Primary Awards – Emerald Town Hall – 4:00PM – 6:00PM
Tuesday 29th – CSDE P&C Primary & Secondary Awards Night Dinner – Emerald Racecourse – 6:30PM – 9:30PM
The school has worked extensively to improve its communication, utilising the various avenues at its disposal. If you haven’t yet downloaded the app, you are missing out on vital information, including the details above. There are various links and booking forms to be completed, including RSVPs, meal bookings, and sport nominations. Please assist us by ensuring that you have the app, are checking out the details, and completing the relevant tasks.
Students, please continue to work hard, right up until the final Thursday of the year – 8th December. We wish you nothing but the best of luck for your assessments. All anyone ever asks, is that you do your best. If you can look in the mirror and say that of yourself, then you’ve kicked a goal.
For now though, please take care of yourselves, and each other. We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Mulcahy - Stride 4 Stroke
As past students of CSDE, Lily, Jo and Andy have joined our Stride 4 Stroke team (Pezet Pacers) in 2022. Our goal is to raise funds and awareness to help treat, beat and prevent stroke!
If any of our fabulous CSDE families are able to and would like to support the family it would be very much appreciated.
The team has a very special member this year in Angela's Mum - Jennifer, who suffered her debilitating stroke in 2021. She is continuing her long and difficult recovery, mentally as well as physically and is putting her physio therapy towards her moving minutes for the month of November.
Here are the links to some of their pages:
Pink Gate Challenge
CSDE participated recently in the Pink Gate Challenge, aiming to raise awareness for the fighters and survivors of breast cancer and the impact this cancer has on their lives, and the lives of the people who care for them.
The objective was to decorate our school’s gate using the pink colour scheme of the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, making it as bright as possible.
Some of our amazing CSDE staff were up early to transform our normally bland, black, 'barricade' into a pink, powerhouse of awareness.

Year 11 Field Trip
This week our Year 11 students in Biology, Aquatic Practices and Geography sailed the seas, venturing to Kanomie Island for their 'Science' Field Trip.
Beach Sampling, snorkelling, campfires, morning walks, searching for plankton and much more, our students collected heaps of data and learnt some valuable information and skills to assist them in their assessments.
A big shout out to Mrs Cowley, Mrs Tucker and Mr Sutherland for their time and effort in making this opportunity available for our students.
Year 12 Resources
Year 12 Social & Community Studies Showcase
For the final module / unit in Social and Community studies we delve into to the world of budgeting – saving, spending, investing, debit and credit. With our final task students are required to create a blog and social media poster to advise young people about their rights under the NCCPA, what the risks are with Credit, Before and After pay and then give advice on how to get help if you find yourself in trouble with creditors.
The year 12 students all jumped into this task with enthusiasm and the result was a great demonstration of the knowledge gained from the unit and their high competencies with technology gained from being an online student.
For the next few weeks we will showcase some of their works.

Saving our endangered animals. All funds go to World Wildlife Fund (Australia)
We are a group of Year 12 students who are concerned about our beautiful creatures in Australia. In class, we talked about how it can be possible to help out our troubled species.
Let us tell you what we came up with. Koalas, echidnas, the platypus and turtles are all in trouble at the moment. If we don’t do something to save these guys soon, a major thing could happen to the environment.
They are all here for a reason, like we are.

They are all here for a reason, like we are.
Please, help us save these beautiful creatures. We’ve put a lot of work as a class to get all these things together.
We are planning to run a cake store to raise money for these creatures at our upcoming mini school on Monday, beginning at 8am. Our stall will be near the sign in desk. We are known, as the Endangered Defenders. Please help us.

Welcome to country
What is Country?
‘Country is everything. It’s family, it’s life, it’s connection’. — Jude Barlow, Ngunnawal Elder
Country is the term often used by Aboriginal peoples to describe the lands, waterways and seas to which they are connected. The term contains complex ideas about law, place, custom, language, spiritual belief, cultural practice, material sustenance, family and identity.
Welcome to Country rituals go back to when visitors had to wait to be welcomed into a camp or ceremony — sometimes left sitting outside the camp for days until people were ready for them and sure that they would not bring harm.
Being welcomed to Country means that you are talking to your spiritual ancestors and you’re saying just let this person come through. We trust that they’re not going to do any harm on this Country and so do not harm them.
Acknowledging Country
Acknowledging when you’re on the land of Traditional Owners is a sign of respect which acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ownership and custodianship of the land, their ancestors and traditions. Both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples can show this form of respect.
Only the traditional owners can speak for and welcome visitors to Country or give others the authority to do so.
See the link for a welcome to country.
