Mission: Supporting every student to reach their highest potential
Principal's Pen
As I write this article, the end of Term 4 Mini-school 2022 looms. What an absolutely wonderful week it has been.
I’d like to start by once again congratulating our Year 12 students who today, say goodbye to our school for the last time.
Year 12, as you start your next journey, be that; work, further training and education and maybe even some travel before taking up your new pathway, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the school community, to wish you all the very best. I hope when you think of your time at Capricornia School of Distance Education it is with fond memories. Please keep in touch, let us know how you are going and what you are doing.
Well done Year 12.
This week I had the opportunity to attend our Emerald Mini-school on Monday and Tuesday and the remainder of the week in Rockhampton for Secondary Swimming Carnival, Secondary Awards and the Secondary formal.
The school was abuzz with excitement across both sites and I enjoyed the chance to see our students and speak to them about their learning as well as catch up parents and home tutors.
It was great for families to see the progress with upgrades happening to the Outstation, Shed and Tuckerbox. The builders and Infrastructure Team are working hard to have these facilities ready for next year’s Induction Days on the 24th and 25th of January 2023.
At our Rockhampton Campus, our Primary students were able to use our brand new classroom facilities. I would like to thank our P&C and families past and present for your assistance in helping to achieve the new facilities in Rockhampton as well as helping achieve the upgrades to ‘make safe’ our accommodation facilities in Emerald. At our Secondary Mini-school I was excited to watch our students actively participate in all of the events on offer. The “Nutbush” seems now to be set as a tradition for students at the Swimming Carnival and I’d like to acknowledge the enthusiasm of our all students at the carnival. It was great to see students ‘having a go’ and just enjoying what was on offer.
The Awards Ceremony at Central Qld University was another wonderful chance for us to acknowledge our Year 7-12 students for their academic, civic and sporting successes and I’d like to thank everyone involved in the smooth running of the ceremony.
Formal was spectacular. This year we had the largest number of graduating students the school has ever seen and the mood in the room was electric. Our students all went above and beyond to look their very best to celebrate the evening and to hear the chatter and joy in the room was heart-warming.
Thank you to our teachers, teacher aides and support staff who have worked tirelessly this week to ensure your student’s experience at Mini-school has been the best it can be. Thank you also to all of our dedicated and committed home tutors, families and guardians who have made huge sacrifices to organise your students to attend these wonderful events. I do appreciate the logistics involved are huge and certainly appreciate your continued support, working in partnership with the school, to ensure we provide the best education we can for your student/s.
To assist with planning into next year I have listed below, key dates for 2023. Please note, there are still a few dates to be confirmed however as soon as this is possible the school will communicate this information.
Enjoy your weekend, following what has been a huge week.
Sincere Regards, Amanda Rynne
CSDE says 'Farewell' to the Class of 2022
Our Year 12 students had a busy day of Celebrations on Thursday with the Awards and Graduation Ceremony followed by the Year 12 Formal in the evening.
Our students, decked out in their glamourous attire, celebrated along with family, friends and staff of CSDE. We wish our graduates all the best in their future endeavours.

National Youth Education Survey
Dear parents and families,
We know many of you have children who would like the opportunity to voice what they need from schools to be better supported to learn, and feel welcomed and included. Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) is seeking feedback from students with disability about their experiences at school, via a 10 minute confidential survey (see link below). The survey will close Wednesday 30 November. Students who are at school, or who have recently left or finished school, are eligible to participate in this national survey on education. The information collected will be used by CYDA in its advocacy work to government and others.
If you are a young person with disability (aged 10 - 25) you can take part in our National Youth Education Survey.
The survey is for students who are currently at school (K-12) and young people with disability who have recently left or finished school. If that's not you, but you think someone in your family or community would like to do the survey, please send them the link 🔗
The information we collect in the survey helps us to advocate with government for the rights and needs of students with disability in the education system.
🕢 The survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
🗓️ It will be open until 30 November.
Responses are confidential 🤫 and we don't ask for any identifying details.
Thank you!
The team at CYDA

2024 Next Step Year 12 Completers Survey
A reminder that our Year 12 students will be invited to participate in the Next Step Year 12 Completers survey starting in March 2024. The short confidential survey will ask questions about graduates’ activities since finishing school, like study and work.
Graduates can expect to be invited to the survey via a letter from the Minister for Education or an email or phone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office on behalf of the department. Please check your contact details are correct with your school and your learning account by logging into the student portal at https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/
We appreciate your participation in this important survey as it helps our school improve our senior services for future students. For more info visit www.qld.gov.au/nextstep.

CSDE Cultural Snapshot
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
Watch the link below which gives some great information around the history of NAIDOC week right back to 1938 and it’s beginnings.
