Our School Values
Mission: Supporting every student to reach their highest potential
Farewell 2022
Well the end of yet another year is upon us and it has again been a wonderful effort from staff, parents, home tutors and students. This term we have seen our final Mini-school for the year, which also included the Secondary Swimming Carnival, Awards Ceremony, Year 12 Graduation and Year 12 Formal in Rockhampton. In Emerald, Term 4 has seen Mini-school, Primary Swimming Carnival and also Primary Awards Ceremony. Thank you to all those families that attended these events to support their students.
Here at CSDE, we believe this is a truly amazing school and we continue to be awed by the talent of our students. It takes a combined effort to overcome the barriers of distance and isolation to ensure that every student is achieving their highest potential and we would like to thank everyone for their efforts over this past 12 months. These dedicated and committed teachers, staff, parents and home tutors work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our young people and engage them in their learning. Without their passion and support, achieving success would be difficult.
We would like to wish all our families, staff and students a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to seeing you all in 2023!
Be different, make a difference!

Year 3 student work
Mrs Hawkins makes great use of Seesaw in her classrooms, and was eager to share the creative work of one of our Year Three students – Mahli Beaumont. The link below is to a beautiful combination of technological skill, artistry, and creativity. We hope you enjoy Mahli’s unique use of Seesaw.
SAVE the date for Year 4 Camp 2023
More information regarding Year 4 camp will be made available to all families early 2023.
Student Council 2023 - giving students a voice
Many schools throughout the world have Student Councils and next year, we here at CSDE are going to form such a body – a vehicle for students to become more active members of our school community. A Student Council is a body of elected student representatives from all year levels, whose role it is to listen to students and communicate student issues and ideas with the school administration.
This group will act as a voice for all students. It will provide lots of opportunities for students and teachers to discuss many things and create a positive environment and culture where students’ opinions and concerns are valued.
If you think this group is something you would like to add your voice to, stay tuned in our newsletters at the beginning of 2023! You may even want to get elected as a student rep!

Primary Booklists
Primary Booklists are now available via Blackboard Resources in the Primary General Classroom and also to download below.
Please note that there are no booklists for Secondary Students.
HOME TUTOR INDUCTION SESSIONS
Please note that CSDE is running Home Tutor Induction Days both face to face and online on the 24th and 25th January.
The Home Tutor Induction Timetables are available below. We would love to see as many Home Tutors take advantage of these 2 days as possible and we look forward to meeting with you all.
As part of the school’s 2023 HT Induction Days, on the 24th and 25th of January, CSDE will be running two informal 30-minute sessions, dedicated to improving the skillsets of our Primary and Secondary Home Tutors. The sessions will be run by Home Tutors, for Home Tutors and we are asking for people with experience in this area, to deliver one or two, brief tips or tricks which have had a profound impact within their own schoolroom. By way of example, you might consider sharing your experiences with multiple screens, navigating Seesaw, a useful tool in Outlook, or visual calendars that have benefited your own students?
If you would like to volunteer for these sessions, Lachlan would love to hear from you. Please e-mail: lrsch0@eq.edu.au with your suggestions.
Guidance GO-2
As we wrap up the year, we would like to say a great big thank you from the Wellbeing team here at CSDE.
We have loved every minute of working with the families of CSDE and look forward to a great new year in 2023.
My Education - Link and Launch
Finished Year 12 but doors aren’t opening? Link and Launch can help.
Some students finish Year 12 and just seem to know what’s next. They’re getting a job or apprenticeship, going to TAFE, or heading straight into uni. But after 13 years of making your way through school, sometimes it’s hard to make the next step.
Introducing Link and Launch
Link and Launch is a free service designed to help you identify the options that can work for you after school. You’ll be guided through a range of post-school study, training and work options – and if you don’t have any idea what you want to do next, the program can help you with that too.
Here are just some of the options you might explore:
- free TAFE for under 25s
- Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs
- alternative entry to university
- alternative entry to TAFE
- free apprenticeship for under 25s
- Back to Work subsidies
- employment
- federal incentives and participation programs such as JobTrainer and Transition to Work.
And there’s no right or wrong pathway – just options and opportunities!
Where can I access Link and Launch?
The Link and Launch program is offered via selected Queensland high schools – so yes, you have to go back to school but it won’t be like when you were at school! The program is run on school sites but is separate from the rest of the school.
Check out the locations where you can join the Link and Launch program right now – and more schools will be added next year.
