If you have had a change in any of your contact details, please contact the school to have them updated. It is vital that we have up to date information to be able to contact families.
Primary Postings
Welcome back to 2023! We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and have settled into your first week of online lessons.
With changes to both Primary timetable structure and the introduction of QLearn, please ensure you are letting your Care Group or subject teachers know of any issues in the first instance, so that they can be resolved in a timely manner. We thank you for your patience as we iron out the last pieces of the puzzle to ensure that we have the correct procedures in place, right from the beginning.
We have started the school year with regular timetabled lessons. From next week, we will commence HIT Lit (accessed through HIT Lit courses), Numeracy Passport (accessed through Math courses), and the early years Literacy programs (Heggerty through the Prep course and with POND and OLEY accessed through your student’s English course).
This year brings changes to the Primary Leadership Team that we would like to share with you all.
Emerald – Fiona will be finishing up at the end of Week 8, Term 2, to take some extended leave. She and her family will be moving overseas for a year for some new adventures.
Rockhampton – Lachlan will remain in the Deputy Principal (Primary) position for Term One.
We will keep all families notified as changes to this situation become known.
This year we welcome Kathryn Rix to our Primary team as one of our amazing Year 4 teachers, Yvonne Hodgson to Year 6 (from the Learning Support team last year) and Kristie McEwan to Year 1 (also from Learning Support).
In Week 5 this term we see our Year 4 students head off on the first CSDE camp for the year. A reminder to all Year 4 families, to please stick to the due dates outlined in camp communication. A huge thank you to the staff who will be attending this camp, for the commitment and effort it takes to be away from your families for the week, for the benefit of our CSDE students.
As always, we look forward to our Term 1 Mini-school, which will be held in Week 8. We have a full program already for our students and Home Tutors and look forward to welcoming everyone onto our sites. NAPLAN (Year 3 and 5 students only) will begin on the Wednesday of that week, and communication about registering for these tests offsite, has already been sent to families.
The School sport season has started with nominations and trials for sports already happening. If you are interested in your child pursuing a representative pathway and may have missed the information session during our Home Tutor Induction Days, please contact Murray Harch mharc4@eq.edu.au for further information.
We wish everyone all the best for Term 1 😊

Secondary Scoop
Welcome to a new year of learning at CSDE!
Not sure where to start in actual fact as we have all hit the ground running with a new learning platform, QLearn. Everyone in the school has been working hard to get their heads around the new system in time to work with our amazing students in this space. Don’t forget that if you are having problems with getting into classes, please make sure you talk about this with your CARE Group teacher.
CARE Groups will start on Monday and will look a little different for students than normal classes as you will see students from different year levels in your group. In this short 10-minute lesson you will have the roll marked, check up on the daily notices, do a tech check if required and basically get ready for your day of learning.
Remember your CARE Group teacher wants to get to know a little about you so don’t be afraid to them the teacher about your interests, your pets, your birthday or your favourite food! If you have any questions or problems with your learning, talk to your CARE Group teacher and they will make sure the right person reaches out to solve your problem or answer your questions.
We are all looking forward to a new and exciting year ahead.
Kind regards, Desolee Cowley

Capricornia School of Distance Education values 'face to face' experiences for you and your family. There are many reasons why families and students choose distance education and here at CSDE we aim to ensure that your child receives all the same opportunities as any other student. Mini-school is one of the ways we can offer your child a face to face experience for learning and socialisation.
Throughout the year, CSDE aims to provide opportunities for students to socialise and work with their peers, play sport, compete in swimming and athletics carnivals, experience in class activities in a school environment and facilitate Professional Development opportunities for Home Tutors.
CSDE believes that your child will flourish, as families, staff and the school community work together to support each other, learning and education.
We look forward to seeing you this Mini-school.
