Home Tutor Professional Development
Rockhampton...
Mini-school is scheduled for Week 8 and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to all the excitement planned for that week.
We have something extra special planned for our Home Tutors during Mini-school. Feedback showed a desire within our families for professional development to be able to help support their role as Home Tutor in their child's education.
You asked... we listened.
In Rockhampton we will be holding two special 'Intensive Home Tutor Days' for our Primary and Secondary Home Tutors at the Frenchville Sports Club (see flyer below) on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th. These days begin at 9:30am with an opportunity for Home Tutors to mingle and share thoughts and ideas over morning tea. Formal sessions beginning at 10:00am.
In addition to these intensive days, Primary HT's will also have the opportunity for 'Spelling Mastery Training' on Monday and Year Level HT sessions with the teachers on Thursday with both of these days being held at CSDE campus library.
Emerald Primary families will also have access to three 'Intensive Home Tutor Days' covering Magic 100 Words Training, Spelling Mastery Training and C.L.A.W. will also be on campus in Emerald; 'Teaching in a multi-age classroom', 'Tips and tricks to support all students', Engagement - 'How to keep kids interested, engaged and motivated'.
Registration is essential for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday sessions, as they will be catered (morning tea and lunch) and we need to confirm numbers. Click the link below to register.
Registrations close Monday 6th March.

What's been happening in Primary?...
Year 1 Rockhampton
Students in Year 1 have been working very hard and have been settling in to our new routines. In English, we have been looking at how characters are developed and how they change throughout stories. This week we have been looking at Gerald in the book ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. We wrote sentences using adjectives to describe what he was like at the beginning, middle and end of the book. In Maths, we have been saying, writing and modelling our teen numbers.
The Year 1's have been very busy these first few weeks of school. In English, we have been reading lots of fiction stories and talking about literal and implied meaning. We have also been discussing how the characters have changed from the beginning of the book to the end. One book that we loved was 'The Very Blue Thingamajig'. We listened carefully to the language the author used in the story to describe the Thingamjig and drew what we thought it looked like. Here are some of our drawings.
Save the Date - 2023 Regional Shield
On Thursday and Friday the 13 - 14th July, we will be providing students with an opportunity to participate in the 2023 CQ Regional Shield U12's Netball & Rugby League Carn. - 13-14 July 2023.
In 2023 the 13th Annual Regional Shield will be held once again in Rockhampton. This competition is an exciting opportunity for all State Primary Schools in the Central Queensland Region.
The Regional Shield concept involves schools participating in Rugby League and Netball competitions run over two consecutive days.
Secondary Scoop
HPE
In 2023, Qld HPE Week will be held from Monday 20 - Friday 24 February.
Qld HPE Week is a week that celebrates the role of Health & Physical Education in schools and communities. The aim is to promote the importance of HPE in the Australian Curriculum and highlight the importance of HPE to the learning and development of children and young people.
This is perfect timing as we will roll out the MOVEMENT component of our HPE content. Mrs Huff has been busily preparing her fitness videos for our CSDE students to get moving. Here are some other activities you could do!

Year 12 Senior Shirts
Please see below information links and order forms for the Year 12 Senior Shirts
School Photos - access links have been emailed to families.
School Photos will be held during Term One Mini-school. There will be no envelopes, as families have been emailed an access key to be able to order their photos online. Please check your spam/junk folder if you have not received this access key.
CSDE will also be issuing all Secondary Students in Year 7 - 12 with a student card from their 2024 school photo. The first card is supplied and paid for by the school. All replacement cards will be at the expense of the family.
Sibling photos will be on offer at Rockhampton Campus from 7:30am on Monday 11th March to allow families time for this to occur before having to take their secondary students to Conference on North. Any students with senior exams on photo day do not stress! Secondary individual photos will be taken in the afternoon at Conference on North
CSDE is also offering Year Level group photos. These photos are compiled virtually from all the students in that year level that had their photo taken. This is a new option for our families, introduced last year and we are very excited to be able to offer you the latest technology in creating digital memories again this year. These group photos were very well received last year, giving students a lasting momento of their classmates that is usually reserved for only 'face to face' schools.

Dear friends and supporters of CRU,
CRU is pleased to invite you to our upcoming online events exploring some of the important elements of a good life.
We will be looking at friendships and relationships, meaningful employment, and we also have two new webinars on funded supports.
Whether you’re in Cairns, Charleville or Coolangatta, or anywhere in between, these events can help you, or someone you care about develop confidence, skills and strategies to live the life you want. Follow the links below for more detail and register today.
Holding the Compass: Directing funded support to get the life you want (new!)
Does having paid support really make your life better? More and more people with disability have access to funding enabling them to pay workers, organisations and services to assist them in the ways that they need, to live the life they want.
When it comes to selecting, organising and working with paid supports though it can be a challenging and at times a disappointing experience.
Presented as a two-part webinar series, plus a bonus third online discussion which will not be recorded. Gain confidence, and skills to direct your supports to have the life you want.
Webinar 1: Setting the direction with funded supports, Wednesday 22nd March 12.30-2.30.
Knowing what you want and need from paid support is essential if that support is going to work well for you. Set the direction, be clear on your goals and get the quality support you want.
Webinar 2: Navigating life with funded supports, Friday 23rd March.
Navigating life with funded supports is about staying on track, and moving forwards towards the life you choose. Take a lead and have good working relationships with your paid supports.
How Can we Respond and Nurture Friendships and Relationships in the lives of people with disability? Webinar replays (closing soon!)
In these webinar replays our presenters Lisa Bridle and Neil Barringham show that it is possible to assist people with disability to make friends and to develop a broad personal network. Lisa and Neil will join us again for live questions and plenty of time for discussion.
The Grass is Greener Where You Water It- Webinar replay with live discussion with Lisa Bridle
Tuesday 21st February 2pm- 4pm.
How to Find People Who Will Be There - Webinar replay with live discussion with Neil Barringham
Thursday 23rd February 2pm- 4pm
Meaningful Work for You: how to find it or create it.
Wednesday 30th March, 10:00am– 1:00pm
Everyone can work but not everyone is given the chance to show what they can do! This interactive online workshop is for people with disability who want to work but know the traditional pathways won’t lead to the jobs and career you want.
The costs of these events are partially subsidised by a Department of Social Services grant. If you are a person with disability, or family member and cost is a barrier to attending, please contact CRU to discuss.
STEM Inventors Challenge
Gladstone | Free
Over the course of seven weeks, students will develop an innovative solution to protect or restore Queensland’s unique biodiversity. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative and creative ideas and, in doing so, help protect Queensland’s native animals, plants and ecosystems for the future.
The Challenge is open to students in Years 7 to 10 from schools in the Gladstone region, working in teams of between two and five students.
Teams will submit a Project Logbook (supplied at the start of the challenge), documenting their ideas through each step of the design process, along with a three-minute presentation identifying the challenge and proposed solution.
Launch event
Students can attend a one-day intensive workshop on Wednesday 26 OR Thursday 27 April 2023 at STEM Central, CQU Gladstone, or students can commence the challenge in their own classrooms from Wednesday 26 April 2023.
