Introducing Amanda Mobbs - Primary Deputy Emerald Campus
From Term 3 I will be filling the Deputy Principal role at the Emerald Campus while Ms Bailey is enjoying her amazing adventure.
Thank you for the warm welcome from the CSDE team. I would have met some families at the end of 2022 at the Emerald Campus.
I have worked in the Central Highlands for most of my teaching career as a Curriculum Advisor, Deputy Principal and sometimes Acting Principal.
It is interesting that I am returning to the CSDE team after 20 years when I worked at the Emerald Campus as a Learning Support Teacher in the mid 2000’s. I look forward to meeting and working with you to support the learning success of your students.
Kind regards,
Amanda Mobbs

- No lessons on Tuesday of the Carnival for Primary Students.
Secondary Classes:
- All Secondary lessons will be running as normal on Monday.
- Tuesday Secondary lessons will also be running with consolidation of learning so as not to disadvantage Secondary students that are attending the carnival.
ICAS - Primary Students
CSDE would like to offer Primary students the opportunity to participate in the ICAS tests again this year.
ICAS testing is not compulsory, however sitting ICAS exams can help to prepare students for the challenges of the years ahead by giving them opportunities to problem solve and extend themselves academically. The outcomes of this testing can provide comprehensive benefits to both students and parents as it gives great insights into how their students are performing compared to their peers, locally, nationally and globally.
These tests are completed online, however the students need to be at either the Emerald or Rockhampton Campus to access these tests.
The English exam will be held in Week 6 of Term 3.
The Maths exam is during Week 8 of Term 3.
If you would like your student/s to participate in ICAS for English or Maths in 2023 please let us know via the following link.

On Thursday and Friday the 13 - 14th July, we will be providing students with an opportunity to participate in the 2023 CQ Regional Shield U12's Netball & Rugby League Carn. - 13-14 July 2023.
In 2023 the 13th Annual Regional Shield will be held once again in Rockhampton. This competition is an exciting opportunity for all State Primary Schools in the Central Queensland Region.
The Regional Shield concept involves schools participating in Rugby League and Netball competitions run over two consecutive days.
Your Own Team - Your Own Sport - Your Own Way!
Yes, the State of Origin was on this week, (Congratulations QLD!) however, apparently not everybody likes Football! (and that’s okay)So… the CSDE Wellbeing Committee asked our staff and students to 'dress up and turn up' to school in their favourite sporting colours/uniform.‘Your own team, Your own sport, Your own way’!

Geography Competition
Year 9 and 10 Geography Students competed in the Australian Geography Competition. Capricornia School of Distance Education paid the entry fee for our students and with the help of Ms Russell, their entries were completed and processed.
The Australian Geography Competition is a contest for Australian secondary school students, assessing their geographical knowledge and skills. The Competition aims to encourage student interest in geography and to reward student excellence.
In 2023, the Competition was held online within schools, from Wednesday 10 May to Wednesday 24 May. The Competition consisted of mainly multiple-choice questions testing geographical knowledge and skills. All participants received results and certificates (top 1% in Australia, high distinction, distinction, credit or participation). Students were be graded at school Year levels – Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, and Year 12. Outstanding students at each Year level won prizes which included books and special certificates, and medals for first in Australia.
Whilst only students in Years 9 & 10 participated this year, next year we are hoping to be able to offer it to all of Secondary.

Coming of the Light
Every year on the 1st of July Torres Strait Islanders celebrate The Coming of the Light – this commemorates the adoption of Christianity across the islands.
It began on the 1st of July 1871 when the Reverend Samuel MacFarlane of the London Missionary Society anchored at Erub Island and was welcomed on the island.
This day is an island specific public holiday and many Torres Straight Islanders whether they live on the islands, or the mainland will come together every year to celebrate this day.

Sports Person of the year award 2023
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
