Clusters
As you know the rsvp for Clusters was due last week and we thank you those families that have expressed interest in attending.
Unfortunately due to lack of numbers and families interested in the Bundaberg, Alpha and Rockhampton Clusters, we have had to make the decision to cancel these three events.

What's happening in Primary?
Year 4 - Timetable Changes
Teachers have reallocated year 4 students to new class groups for Semester 2.
This will enhance the learning environment for students.
Home Tutors please check student timetables on the holidays to confirm which class your student is in for Semester 2.
There have been changes made to all Year 4 subject areas.
Year 5
This term in English students explored the language features that are used to make an exciting narrative. We had a lot of fun exploring idioms! What’s that you’re all ears to check out some of our work? We think you will be over the moon, to see what we have done!
Owen's sentences!
The courageous kelpie is running through the water at a fast pace. His job is to block the cattle from entering the dark bush. As he is running he thinks to himself this will be a piece of cake.
Libby's sentences!
My owner yelled, "block them up Buddy." Once I heard my master say that I scampered through the crystal clear water. I tried and tried to turn the cows the right way, but they wouldn't turn around. So my chief yelled, "come on Buddy let's call it a day becuase the specular cows are driving me up the wall." I was so excited to hear my master call it a day.
Year 5 Eteach
Year 5 Eteach – The Year Five students have been busy completing Eteach units. The teachers were very impressed with the artwork the students produced in the Visual Arts unit.
Japanese - Primary
This semester we have been talking about Art in Japanese class, as I am sure many of you are aware! We have experienced two traditional styles of Japanese art at mini-school; Bingata and Chigiri E.
We have also explored colours and worked towards broadening our understanding of what art actually is, all the while, learning some key vocabulary and sentences to write our own Artist Statement in Japanese.
Below are two of the wonderful examples – I wish I could share them all with you, because I am just so proud of everyone’s amazing Japanese handwriting and effort to showcase their artist talent.
The only guidelines had about their pieces of art were:
1. It should be a piece that showcases their artistic talent!
2. Something they want to share!

Secondary Scoop
...Strange requests from the Science department!
This term the budding scientists in Year 9 completed their assessment in science on chemical reactions and the conservation of mass. Home tutors may have had some strange requests from students at home for bicarb, vinegar, citric acid, hydrogen peroxide, yeast, scales and balloons so they could participate in the experiment. Being a scientist in a distance setting poses challenges but all students were up for the challenge.
Students were asked to complete an experiment at home that shows a chemical reaction and how it upholds the law of conservation of mass. Mrs Genninges class was lucky enough to complete their experiments with the help of both Mr Plummer and Mrs Biles who were thrown in the deep end of experimenting and came out on top with results, videos and photos. It was exciting to have the students do their own experiments alongside our Teachers and Teacher Aides.
Alert - Please be aware that Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students will all be doing experiments in Term 3.
Please keep an eye out for emails from teachers on what is required.
Some resources will be mailed out to students in addition to items that will be required to be provided from home.

Cultural Snapshot
Did you know………
Indigenous Australians are the original inhabitants of the Australian continent, and Torres Strait Islanders of the Torres Strait Islands, at the most northern part of Queensland. The term ‘Aboriginal people’ is generally only used for the Indigenous inhabitants of mainland Australia. Indigenous Australians can be either Australian Aboriginal people or Torres Strait Islander people.
Here at CSDE, we aim to build awareness in all our staff, about good teaching and learning for our Indigenous students. This awareness then drives teachers to adopt culturally responsive teaching and pedagogical practices, including:
- Wanting to know more about their students
- Respecting students more
- Nurturing caring relationships for them and wanting the best for them
- Designing lessons that maximise their learning, and
- Designing quality assessment tasks that give students opportunities to demonstrate the full extent of their learning.

Sports Person of the year award 2023
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
