Principal's Pen
Dear Students, Parents, Home Tutors and Staff,
As we reach the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to recognise the efforts of our students, parents, home tutors and staff.
We now commence a well-deserved holiday break and I encourage you to take this time to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate. It has been an intense and demanding term and each one of you deserves some rest. Spend quality time with loved ones, pursue hobbies, or simply take a moment to appreciate the beauty around you. Remember, self-care is crucial, and I hope you take the opportunity to prioritise your well-being. School will resume on Monday the 10th of July 2023, with an action-packed term already awaiting us. I look forward to seeing you again next term.
Amanda Rynne

Introducing Qkr - The way to order all CSDE Uniforms
The P&C has handed over the running of the 'Uniform Shop' to the school.
From this point on, all school uniform orders and payments will need to be placed through Qkr! on your mobile device.
Once you have downloaded the Qkr! App, turn on the notifications so that you will be informed of any specials, last order deadline dates etc.
Our Finance Department has put together a quick tutorial video below to help you get started.
What is Qkr?
Qkr is a mobile app for iPhones and Android smartphones that provides secure purchases, protected by Masterpass security for administrators and parents. Qkr will be used for uniform and senior shirt payments, replacing my school connect as the Uniform Shop is being transferred to the school to manage. Qkr will also be used in the future for other school payments as the system is rolled out within the finance department.
What do customers pay to access Qkr?
Qkr is free for customers, there is no transaction fee charged to customers making payments via the app.
Important to enable notifications...
What's happening in Primary?
Heggerty Programme Update.
The school is implementing changes to its delivery of the Heggerty programme. For Term Three Week One, no Heggerty classes will be scheduled. Our plan is to deliver phonemics through regularly timetabled English lessons for Prep, Year 1 and year 2 students. A targeted Heggerty program will be delivered only to students in Years 1 and 2 who are contacted during Week One. This e-mail will include details of class name, Teacher Aide, and lesson location in QLearn. If your student has attended Heggerty in Term Two but is no longer required to do so, you will be informed of this via e-mail.
Due to copyright restrictions, the school is unable to store scanned copies of the materials in the ‘Storeroom’ on QLearn.
Year 6 - Emerald
The end of Term Two brings the mad rush to complete assessments is truly here with students, and teachers, seeing the finish line fast approaching!
A visit from Rocky Instincts at the beginning of the week was very popular with a wide display of First Nations artifacts, a session on how to create a bird trap and, not forgetting how to make fire, which was very engaging – and you need to have a lot of patience! An internet safety presentation was also provided which was very relevant, especially in this day and age, as we need to be constantly vigilant when online.
Mini-school saw the Emerald student leaders attend the Mayor Summit, which gave them a chance to see other students from across our region. The leaders did us proud as they were one of the few that gave their speeches live - you should be very proud of your leadership qualities!
Erin Rogers and Jessica Harper (the Japanese teachers), including Georgina Harch visited us during the week for some Japanese paper art. They produced some very artistic pieces of artwork which went on display at the Emerald Show.
Thursday’s Country dance was attended really well with lots of dancing, fun games and fluro-sticks which were organised by the Year 6 students –well done Year 6 students! It was really good to see the younger siblings having fun too. The week concluded with Ananse Stories, which provided the students with a cultural perspective of songs, stories and drumming from Africa.
Year 6 in Rockhampton have been busy in Term 2!
In term 2, the Year 6 students found themselves busier than ever, engaging in a wide range of activities and events. The term kicked off with the commemoration of Anzac Day, where the students participated in parades to honour the bravery and sacrifices of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers. They marched proudly alongside veterans and community members, carrying our CSDE banners and laying wreaths. It was a solemn yet empowering experience that left a lasting impression on the young minds.
Amidst the academic rigor, the students enjoyed Mini-school and also eagerly anticipated the annual Athletics day. Any training and preparation paid off as students showcased their athletic abilities, competing in various track and field events. The spirit of friendly competition was high, with students cheering each other on and displaying excellent sportsmanship. Whether they were sprinting down the track, throwing shotputs, or leaping over high jump bars, the Year 6 students gave their all and celebrated their achievements together.
As the term draws to a close, the Year 6 students have found themselves busy with assessments, consolidating their learning and demonstrating their progress. They have eagerly reviewed their notes, sought clarification from teachers, and dedicated extra time to prepare for their exams and assignments. The supportive atmosphere in our QLearn classrooms has allowed them to ask questions and support one another, creating a conducive environment for academic growth.
This week, some students also participated in clusters at various locations around the state. Students have enjoyed much time with thier peers, teachers and families participating in all kinds of fun activities, some at home stays and others at Mackay PCYC.
Looking forward to the next term, we anticipate our Year 6 students will be eager to face new challenges, explore new concepts, and continue their personal and academic development. With the support of their teachers and classmates, they will be looking forward to engaging in further learning experiences, building new friendships, and creating lasting memories in Term 3. After the holiday break the Year 6 students should be ready to embrace the opportunities that await them, and we are confident that they will make the most of their final Semester of Primary School.

Sports Person of the year award 2023
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
