New publishing time
In an effort to help CSDE families engage in reading the Newsletter as the primary source of information for school activities etc., the suggestion was made at the recent P&C meeting for the newsletter be published early in the week, as opposed to the end of the week when parents and staff are ‘switching off’ and entering ‘weekend mode’. We feel this suggestion has merit and as a result, the weekly newsletter will now be published at the beginning of each week.
Details of the current 'readership' are in the image below and through this new publishing day, we hope we can improve on these.
These details are also an important reminder of the importance of families updating email addresses with the school to ensure that emails do not bounce back. If you have changed your email address, please contact the administration office and they will be able to update the information for you.

Dear Students, Home Tutors, Parents, and Staff,
I hope this message finds you refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to embark on an exciting new chapter as we begin Term 3. Welcome back! It's wonderful to have each and every one of you back in our learning community.
The winter holidays offered a well-deserved break, providing us with an opportunity to recharge, spend quality time with loved ones, and explore new experiences.
As we resume our educational journey, I would like to set a vision for Term 3 that centres around resilience and striving for excellence.
Resilience is a quality that empowers us to face challenges head-on, adapt to new circumstances, and persevere in the face of adversity. It is through resilience that we develop the strength to overcome obstacles, learn from setbacks, and grow both personally and academically. In Term 3, let's embrace resilience as a guiding principle, recognising that every hurdle is an opportunity for growth and progress.
To truly excel, it is essential that each of us gives our best effort. Whether you are a student eager to delve into new subjects, a home tutor providing guidance and support, a parent nurturing a love for learning, or a dedicated staff member fostering an enriching environment, I encourage you to bring your absolute best to every endeavour. Let's push our boundaries, challenge ourselves, and unleash our full potential.
In Term 3, we will continue to explore visible learning, provide engaging learning opportunities, and create an environment that nurtures curiosity and fosters collaboration. Our collective commitment to learning and personal growth will pave the way for remarkable achievements and lasting memories.
I invite you to take advantage of the resources available to you, seek guidance from your teachers and engage in open communication. Together, we can build a supportive community that celebrates accomplishments and offers a helping hand during challenging times.
Once again, welcome back! Let's make Term 3 an extraordinary journey filled with knowledge, resilience, and remarkable achievements.

Introducing Qkr - The way to order all CSDE Uniforms
The P&C has handed over the running of the 'Uniform Shop' to the school.
From this point on, all school uniform orders and payments will need to be placed through Qkr! on your mobile device.
Once you have downloaded the Qkr! App, turn on the notifications so that you will be informed of any specials, last order deadline dates etc.
Our Finance Department has put together a quick tutorial video below to help you get started.
What is Qkr?
Qkr is a mobile app for iPhones and Android smartphones that provides secure purchases, protected by Masterpass security for administrators and parents. Qkr will be used for uniform and senior shirt payments, replacing my school connect as the Uniform Shop is being transferred to the school to manage. Qkr will also be used in the future for other school payments as the system is rolled out within the finance department.
What do customers pay to access Qkr?
Qkr is free for customers, there is no transaction fee charged to customers making payments via the app.
Important to enable notifications...
What's happening in Primary?
Heggerty Programme Update.
The school is implementing changes to its delivery of the Heggerty programme. For Term Three Week One, no Heggerty classes will be scheduled. Our plan is to deliver phonemics through regularly timetabled English lessons for Prep, Year 1 and year 2 students. A targeted Heggerty program will be delivered only to students in Years 1 and 2 who are contacted during Week One. This e-mail will include details of class name, Teacher Aide, and lesson location in QLearn. If your student has attended Heggerty in Term Two but is no longer required to do so, you will be informed of this via e-mail.
Due to copyright restrictions, the school is unable to store scanned copies of the materials in the ‘Storeroom’ on QLearn.

TORRES STRAIT
The Torres Strait is Australia's northern-most frontier, stretching from the tip of Queensland to the southern shores of Papua New Guinea. There are over 200 islands scattered throughout the Torres Strait, and of these 17 are inhabited. The Torres Strait is 150 kilometres across and joins the Coral Sea to the east with the Arafura Sea to the west. Thursday Island, the main administrative centre for the Torres Strait, is the gateway to a diverse culture and vast region. The central islands are picture perfect coral cays, while in the east majestic mountains rise from the ocean. In the far north you'll find a cluster of islands which continue the tradition of trade with PNG coastal villages. Remarkably beautiful, these islands are characterised by unique cultural, linguistic, and geographic differences.

Sports Person of the year award 2023
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
