2023 Early School Leavers survey
The Queensland Government is seeking the support of the school community for the annual follow up of Year 10, 11 and 12 students who left a state school in 2022, before completing Year 12. This short questionnaire collects information about what young people are doing the year after leaving state school. The results inform strategies for improving the learning experience and transition supports available to future school leavers.
Between August and September, early leavers from 2022 can expect to receive instructions to complete a few web-based questions or a telephone call from the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office. Please encourage them to take part. If their contact details have changed, please assist the interviewer with their updated details or forward the instructions to their new address so they can participate.
Thank you for your support in 2023.
For more information, please visit www.qld.gov.au/nextstep/ or telephone toll free on 1800 068 587.

Work Experience
At the end of last term, 26 students in Years 10 – 12 participated in Work Experience. This allowed students to engage with industry and experience workplace environments. The excitement and successes following this experience were extremely positive and an absolute credit to our students. Students are encouraged to engage in the next work experience opportunity which is being held in Term 4, Week 8 to continue building pathway opportunities.
Year 10 Student Education and Training Plans (SET Plans)
In Semester one this year, Year 10 students completed the Short Course in Career Education. This course focussed on helping students to plan for and shape their future in the rapidly changing world of work, concentrating on students’ learning required skills to become independent, lifelong learners.
Part of this course also involved students beginning to plan their pathway into Year 11 and 12 or planning a transition to work by completing the first phases of their Student Education and Training Plan (SETP). Year 10 students and their families are now currently involved in the final phase of this plan which involves interviews with Secondary Heads of Department, where further support for pathway planning is provided and 2024 Year 11 subject selections are completed.
Please note that all State School students in Year 10 are required to complete a Senior Education and Training Plan which focusses on planning for students’ intended pathway after the completion of Year 10. By completing a SET Plan, a student will be confident preparing for their pathway post-year 10 which may be: transitioning to Senior Schooling studies for a QCE and/or ATAR pathway, full-time work, enrolment into Vocational Education and Training courses, school-based or full-time apprenticeships or traineeships. Students are encouraged to review their plan in the future as it can change as new opportunities or circumstances present.
Year 10 families are asked to ensure their SET Plan interview has been booked to ensure post-Year 10 pathway planning has been completed with your student.
Please engage with the 2024 Subject Selections & SET Plan recording and SET Plan webinar recording prior to undertaking your students SET Plan.
Wishing our Year 10 Students every success as they undertake their post-Year 10 pathway planning and the Student Education and Training Plan.

Attention - School camp 2024
School camps are an amazing opportunity for your students.
But they can be financially stressful for some parents.
The information below may help some families get ready for the 2024 camps.
Saver Plus will assist with their saving & budgeting for next year’s camp.
Saver Plus encourages parents to save $50 a month (for 10 months). Their savings is then matched - a free $500 for education costs, making $1,000 available for the school camp.
Families that start saving in July, will have their savings ready to pay their school camp fees in May 2024.
Saver Plus will chat with your families about eligibility:
- Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
- Payment from Centrelink and
- Earning an income (employment, carer’s payment, or child support).
Saver Plus helps parents with budgeting for the cost to attend next year’s school camp
The program is funded by ANZ and the Australian Government Department of Social Services

National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
4th August 2023
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day is held every year on August 4th. It's an opportunity for the whole community to celebrate our children and each year, mobs from all over the country host and attend events focused on kids, culture, family and community.
Children’s Day is organised and promoted by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) which is the national organisation that provides a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and promotes their rights, safety and wellbeing.
Children’s Day was first held in 1988. Part of the reason it was started was because there were many of our children in orphanages and institutions who did not know their birthday, so Children’s Day was set aside each year to celebrate the birthday of these children.
The day was also needed to give Aboriginal children “confidence and make them feel special and included.” Over the years the day has grown, with more and more events such as morning teas, community BBQs and other celebrations being held.
Every year, Children’s Day has a different theme – this year’s theme is Celebrating Our Children for 30 Years. SNAICC’s description of the theme is below:
Our children are the youngest people from the longest living culture in the world, with rich traditions, lore and customs that have been passed down from generation to generation. Our children are growing up strong with connection to family, community and country. Our children are the centre of our families and the heart of our communities. They are our future and the carriers of our story.

Introducing Qkr - The way to order all CSDE Uniforms
The P&C has handed over the running of the 'Uniform Shop' to the school.
From this point on, all school uniform orders and payments will need to be placed through Qkr! on your mobile device.
Once you have downloaded the Qkr! App, turn on the notifications so that you will be informed of any specials, last order deadline dates etc.
Our Finance Department has put together a quick tutorial video below to help you get started.
What is Qkr?
Qkr is a mobile app for iPhones and Android smartphones that provides secure purchases, protected by Masterpass security for administrators and parents. Qkr will be used for uniform and senior shirt payments, replacing my school connect as the Uniform Shop is being transferred to the school to manage. Qkr will also be used in the future for other school payments as the system is rolled out within the finance department.
What do customers pay to access Qkr?
Qkr is free for customers, there is no transaction fee charged to customers making payments via the app.
Important to enable notifications...
Sports Person of the year award 2023
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
