Principal's Pen
To the graduating class of 2023….
As we approach the end of another school year, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey that our Year 12 students have undertaken. It is with immense pride and joy that I extend my heartfelt congratulations and well wishes to our graduating class. The week ahead marks the culmination of their hard work, dedication, and personal growth throughout their time at CSDE.
To our Year 12 students, you have not only embraced the academic challenges but also the values that we hold dear at CSDE. You have become shining examples of accountability, integrity, respect, resilience, and the power of building meaningful relationships. These values are the foundation upon which we build not just a successful educational experience but a life well-lived.
Accountability: Through your years at our school, you've shown us the importance of taking ownership of your actions and decisions. Your willingness to be accountable for your choices has not only paved the way for your academic success but will serve as a compass guiding you through the challenges and triumphs of the future.
Integrity: Your integrity has been unwavering, and it is this unwavering commitment to honesty and ethical behaviour that will continue to set you apart as you venture into the next phase of your life. Trust in your principles and values, and let them be your guiding light.
Respect: The respect you've shown to your teachers, peers, and the broader school community is a testament to your character. Continue to extend this respect to everyone you meet in your future endeavours. Respect is the cornerstone of positive relationships.
Resilience: Throughout your time at CSDE, you've faced challenges and obstacles head-on. You've shown that resilience is not just about bouncing back from adversity, but the ability to grow stronger through it. The world beyond school will undoubtedly have its share of tests, but your resilience will be your armour.
Relationships: The bonds you've formed whilst at school will be some of the most precious connections in your life. Nurture and cherish them. As you step into the world, remember that your ability to build and maintain relationships will be a key to your success and fulfillment.
As you step into the wider world, equipped with knowledge, values, and character, remember that the spirit of CSDE is always with you. You are now part of an extended family, and we will always be here to support and celebrate your achievements.
Year 12, as you embrace this exciting chapter of your lives, know that the lessons you've learned here are your foundation. The friendships you've formed, the knowledge you've gained, and the values you've embraced will serve you well. We are excited to witness the incredible impact you will make on the world, and we look forward to hearing about your future successes.
Wishing you all the very best in your future endeavours.
School Review
This week we welcome to our school five school reviewers who will be undertaking a review of our school over the five days of Mini-school. Every 4 years, schools within the Department, undertake a school review which informs next steps for school improvement as well as affirms great work that is happening within. On Tuesday and Wednesday morning, reviewers will be in Emerald to meet with staff, parents and students. Reviewers have also spent time onsite today in Rockhampton and will be back again for further interviews on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. We welcome the report they will provide and will communicate findings with the school community in due course.

Swimming Carnival Program
Please see below the program for the Secondary Swimming carnival on Wednesday at the Southside Pool.
These will be available in hard copy at the swimming carnival, so parents do not need to print this out.
RACQ Docudrama
Year 11 & 12 students took part in the RACQ Docudrama road safety program that educates young drivers and passengers about the ‘Fatal Five’ risk factors (drink and drug driving, fatigue, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and distraction); which are the leading causes of incidents and crashes on our roads. Several proactive strategies were discussed and explored. Students were encouraged to use these strategies if, and when, they find themselves in a potentially dangerous driving situation.
How you can continue this awareness at home?
Students can then use what they learnt in today’s RACQ Docudrama road safety program to continue conversations regarding the positive choices they can make as a driver or passenger.

Mental Health Mini-mart
Today our Secondary students were able to attend the Mental Health Mini-mart. Under the instruction of Kate Miles our Guidance officer, CSDE staff and stallholders braved the heat, setting up the activities for our students.
Rotary made sure everyone was well fed and delicious donations from Galactic Donuts had things ending on a sweet note! Headspace, Youth Nurse and Capras showing up to support our students as well.
Students had a great time and we would like to thank all the stall holders for their time, commitment and compassionate support in creating a positive impact on mental health. These organisations invaluable contribution to the success of the mental health mini-mart exemplified the true spirit of community and empathy. Thank you for your meaningful partnership in fostering mental well-being for all."
Special thanks also to our CSDE groundsman Maurice, for his huge effort in bringing all the equipment from Farm st across town to Conference on North.
