We are Live!!
Home Tutors, this is a friendly reminder that microphones and webcams are essential tools for online learning, but that they also pick up conversations, washing machines, dogs, birds, and potentially, your choice of pyjamas. Please be conscious of noise and visibility whilst lessons are on throughout the day, as this can have a detrimental impact on your student’s learning, and that of their classmates.
Important NAPLAN Information
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING NAPLAN testing 2024 – action required before 23 February 2024.
The National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a national Literacy and Numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. NAPLAN assesses the Literacy and Numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. More information about NAPLAN is available here: www.nap.edu.au/naplan. This year NAPLAN will be held during Term One Mini-school, from Wednesday 13 – Friday 15 March 2024.
If you have a student in years 3, 5, 7 or 9, please click and download the information below regarding your childs' options for accessing NAPLAN testing; onsite, off-site, withdrawals/exemptions.
Please contact your student’s Care Group Teacher by Friday 23rd February, if you would like your student to access any of these options.

ETeach USBs
Dear parents and home Tutors,
Please do not download the contents of the USB onto your computers. Instead, please open the files directly from the USB. Copying these files to the computer can break a link in the back channels. This corrupts key files, and prevents them from opening successfully.
If your USB is faulty, please send it back to the mailroom, and a replacement will be sent. As discussed at this year’s Home Tutor Induction Sessions, the school is investigating an upload to QLearn, but the format in which these courses were created, prevents that from happening in 2024.
What's happening in Prep?
Our Prep students had a blast during their two days of face-to-face lessons at the Home Tutor Induction Days as well as their first week of online lessons! They've been strengthening their fine motor skills by shaping letters with playdough and Wikki Stix as well as practicing their cutting skills. These hands-on experiences not only make learning fun but also lay a strong foundation for their educational journey ahead.

Emerald Campus Prep Vision Screening
Emerald Familes, please see email with booking link that was emailed on the 5th February 2024.
Visit by Registered Nurse for Free Prep Vision Screening
Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screening checks for common eye conditions that may impact your child’s ability to see and therefore impact their learning and development.
A Registered Nurse will be visiting the school on/between 14th March 2024 to conduct vision screening for children in their prep year. Your child does not need a Medicare card in order to participate in screening. If you wish to have your prep child participate in this free vision screening program, please complete a consent form by 7th of March (online). Online or paper consent forms are available and will be distributed to you. Parents do not need to be present for screening, however if you would like to be, please contact the school to arrange this.
If your child’s vision is screened, you will be advised of the results in writing. If a vision concern is found, you will receive a phone call from the nurse to discuss referral to an eye health professional for further assessment. If a vision concern is identified and your child requires glasses, eligible health care card holders may be assisted with free basic glasses through the Spectacle Supply Scheme.
Participation in vision screening is not compulsory. If you do not wish for your child to participate in screening, please complete the consent form and indicate that you wish to decline screening.
If you have any questions, please contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.

GRIP Leadership Conference
School Captains, Maddison and Bella attended the GRIP Leadership Conference yesterday at CQU accompanied by Mrs Benfer.'Students who attend come away with new skills, new perspectives and new ideas for making a positive contribution as a leader.'
Maddison and Bella enjoyed the chance to interact and meet other leaders from across the region. Here's what they had to say...
"The GRIP Leadership conference was a great opportunity for myself and Bella.
It was really good to have the chance to interact and meet other leaders from across the region.
Throughout the day, we learnt various leadership techniques and strategies that we can implement into our roles as 2024 leaders. It was a great chance for self reflection and growth and we are very grateful to have been given this opportunity by the school."
Maddie Frankish
"On Thursday we went to CQU in Rockhampton for the grip leadership conference. We met up with students from school in Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone, and other areas of the region. I found out a lot of great information. I learnt about strengths and ideas that I can use during leadership. During each session we would learn about different things like ideas of what we could do during our captaincy and after we thought about things that we could do we went around and shared our ideas with other schools and see what ideas they had. I really enjoyed going to the conformance and got some really good information and Ideas I can use during the year."

School Council Nominations and Elections
The school is calling for two parent representatives to nominate to fill parent positions on the CSDE School Council.
One position is based at the Emerald Campus and the other is based at the Rockhampton Campus.
As a member of the School Council you will play an important role in ensuring that our students achieve the best learning outcomes.
In order to do this you will be required to participate in one meeting per term commencing in Term 1, 2024.
In these meetings Councillors perform the following tasks;
- monitor the school’s strategic direction
- approve plans, policies and other strategic school documents including the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure
- monitor the implementation of the plans, policies and other strategic documents
- advise the school principal about strategic matters.
Nominations from interested parents are now open and will close on Monday 26 February, 2024.
Please complete a nomination form and also include a short paragraph (bio) for other parents to get to know you and why they should vote for you.
After the final date for receipt of nominations, a ballot setting out the names of the candidates in an order determined by lot will be prepared. Your paragraph of information will also be circulated to families at this time.
To vote for a parent representative, parents must attend a special teleconference meeting to be held on Monday the 25 March, 2024 at 9:30am.
Voting instructions will be provided closer to the election.
If there are the same number or fewer nominations than required, the nominees are elected (s.86(4) of the Act). If this occurs, there will be no need for a ballot.
Please contact the school administration office if you require further information.

(SSBI)School student Broadband Initiative
Last year you received information about about the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), established by the Australian Government to provide free home internet for up to 3000 unconnected families of Queensland state school students.
We’re pleased to advise that the Australian Government has extended the initiative until 31 December 2025.
This extension means that new families can nominate for the SSBI until 31 December 2024. New families eligible for the SSBI will receive free home internet until 31 December 2025. Families who have already signed up for the initiative will have their service automatically extended until 31 December 2025 (no further eligibility checks will be required).
The Australian Government has established a National Referral Centre to allow families to self-nominate for the SSBI. From 2024, families can go directly to the NRC to apply for the SSBI instead of applying through the Department. The National Referral Centre can also provide families assistance with nomination details and contacting and arranging a service provider if required. The contact details for the NRC are:
1800 954 610 (10am-6pm Mon-Fri AEDT)
www.anglicarevic.org.au/student-internet.
Webchat and call-back options are also available via the website.
Please share the SSBI National Referral Centre (NRC) contact details when communicating with families in your school that may benefit from the initiative.
Our SSBI OnePortal page has been updated with the NRC details and other information that may be helpful to your school. During the transition to the new nomination process, we will still action any applications sent to us rather than the NRC.
