School Photos - Update
UPDATE TO LAST WEEKS' NEWSLETTER
Great News! The liquidators have been able to secure printed copies of school photos that were ordered by families and the school had these couriered to Rockhampton late last week. The photos unfortunately are not packaged in folders ready to be sent to families, however we are working on a solution and will have the photos distributed to families as soon as we are able.
Dear Families,
We regret to inform that we have been advised the photographer used by CapSDE and many other schools for student school photos has gone into liquidation.
This unexpected development has created a challenging situation, and we would like to keep you informed about the steps we are taking to address it.
CapSDE is actively working with the liquidators to explore options for another company to assist with the printing and supply of the photos that were taken.
While we navigate this process, we are pleased to inform you that we have been able to secure digital copies of the individual student and class group photos and are making arrangements to distribute these to families as soon as possible.
Additionally, we have been notified that some printed photos are currently being couriered back to CapSDE. At this time, we do not know which specific photos are included in this shipment. We will provide further updates once we have more information.
Unfortunately, we have been advised by the liquidators that refunds for the photos will not be available. We understand this is disappointing news and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
In the meantime, CapSDE will prioritise supplying student cards to families as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work towards a resolution. Please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to ensure you receive a copy of your child’s photos.
Please see below letter from the liquidator.
Home Tutor Resources

These sessions occur every 2nd Wednesday of the month between 3:15-4:15pm ) and are an opportunity to learn more about what the OT role looks like within Department of Education. It also allows school staff/Home Tutors to bring along any general OT questions they may have. The next session is on 12th June (Term 2, Week 9).

With the use of the Discord App growing amongst our CSDE students, we wanted to provide some information around the app. It is always very useful for parents to understand the functions of the apps our children are using so we can fully monitor and understand what they are using it for. It might be worth noting that Discord has a age rating of 17+.

Secondary Scoop
HASS
During the recent Mini-School, The Hass faculty, along with enthusiastic Year 7-9 students, embarked on an enlightening field trip to Emu Park, combining hands-on history exploration with innovative online learning experiences.
Field trip to Emu Park
The students' journey began at the RSL building in Emu Park, where they were greeted with the impressive Anzac memorial. After enjoying lunch and some leisure time in the park, the tour officially commenced. Mr. Barry Vains, the RSL District Associate Director, captivated the students with a detailed presentation on the history of the memorial, its origins, and its significance. The students listened intently and showed immense respect and interest in the rich history being shared.
To deepen their engagement, students participated in an information hunt across the memorial. This activity was designed to test their observational skills with questions like, “What is the symbol surrounding the poppies on the floor artwork?” It was a fun yet educational way for the students to interact with the memorial and absorb its historical significance.
Upon returning to the North Street Complex, the students were quizzed on their observations from the visit. It was impressive to see how many students remembered intricate details, such as “What was Harold Tooker’s service number?”
The day concluded with a mock referendum on the 1916 proposal to amend the Defence Act 1903, which aimed to make overseas military service compulsory. This exercise mirrored the real historical event, with students carefully considering their stance. The result was a close NO vote, reflecting the actual outcome of the 1916 referendum, which was defeated by a margin of 3.2 percent.
Hass Excursion
Engaging online learning
Students participating online were not left out of the enriching experiences. They enjoyed a captivating presentation on the Snowy Hydro Scheme by Mr. Andrew Burke, Education Coordinator. This virtual tour included historical insights and a wealth of resources, providing a comprehensive learning experience for those studying this topic in their history classes.
The online HASS lessons followed the theme of Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water, incorporating diverse subjects:
- Geography – Hydro risks – students investigated ways to mitigate the impacts of riverine flooding using an interactive flood simulator
- History – Gold Rush – this lesson delved into the transformative effects of the gold rush era
- Business – Windy Business – students explored the business potential of wind, learning about product development and branding strategies for wind energy startups
Student work
Several students demonstrated remarkable engagement by submitting outstanding work.
Overall, Mini-School Hass offered a rich blend of historical exploration and modern learning, providing students with valuable educational experiences both in the field and online. The dedication and enthusiasm displayed by the students and teachers were truly commendable, making this Mini-School session a memorable and impactful journey through history and contemporary issues.

Sports Person of the year award 2024
CSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual acheivement. Do not place all acheivements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised school sport and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
