Medication, Asthma and Medical Forms

Medication:
If your student requires medication, please complete the Consent to Administer Medication form. School staff will not administer any over the counter medication, including analgesics, homeopathic or prescribed medication unless all forms are provided by the parent/guardian, and the medication packaging and labelling meet the departmental requirements.
Parent/s are requested to arrange with the teacher-in-charge for the safekeeping and handling of prescribed medications and equipment prior to the excursion. All medication will be administered according to the HLS-PR-009 Administration of routine and emergency medication policy.
Medical Forms and Documentation:
- Medical Forms: Please complete all required medical forms for your child and ensure they are submitted to the school by Week 6, Term Three (18th August). These forms are crucial for us to have accurate and up-to-date medical information for each student and plan accordingly.
- Asthma Plans: If your child has an asthma plan, it needs to be reviewed annually as per departmental requirements. If your child’s asthma plan is due for review, please arrange a doctor’s appointment to ensure the correct documentation is submitted along with all your medication forms on the 18th August.
- Permission to Administer Self-Medication: Students who use inhalers for asthma will need a permission form to self-administer their medication. Part B of the attached document. While students will have access to their inhalers via a teacher’s backpack at all times, teachers are required to note when any medication, including labelled inhalers, is administered in their folders.
Medication Requirements:
Labelled Medication: All medications, including inhalers, must be clearly labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions.
Additional Medications: If your child requires Panadol, Nurofen, travel sickness medication or antihistamines for allergies to insect bites, these will also require a permission to administer medication form as well as a written authorisation from a medical practitioner along with medication supplied in original packaging with pharmacy label.
Written medication authorisation
Medical authorisation can also be:
- a signed letter from the prescribing health practitioner, or
- a Medication order to administer ‘as-needed’ medication at school, or
- a completed and signed health plan from the treating health practitioner.
These documents need to outline the same type of information that would be found on a pharmacy label i.e. student’s full name, clear and detailed directions for taking the medication and contact details for the health practitioner.
This written authorisation must include and must be provided in a labelled packet with the medication.
We aim to have all plans, medication forms, and required documentation completed and printed out for inclusion in the school folders by Week 1, Term 3. This will help us ensure we are well-prepared and can provide the best care for your child during camp.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication, please contact the administration office via email and CC in the Inclusion Teacher, Heidi Phillips. E: hphil55@eq.edu.au

What to Bring

Ensure all items are clearly labelled with your student's name.
Adequate warm clothing should be provided as this camp is being held in winter.
If your student suffers from travel sickness, a consent to administer medication form along with travel sickness medication with the doctor/pharmacy label may be prudent.
Students are permitted to bring cash for souvenirs only and no more than $50.
Staff are not responsible for this money and students will be expected to keep the money secure with their belongings.
Students are not purchasing food at the airport or other venues.
Day One food is to be supplied by parents in their day bags. Prepackaged (preferably not fresh fruit and vegetables) that you know your student likes
Examples –
- Muesli, granola or protein bars,
- prepackaged crackers and cheese,
- packets of mixed nuts or dried fruit,
- Snack size prepackaged fruit cups (with a disposable spoon)
- poppers,
- snack packs of biscuits or popcorn,
- prepackaged muffins,
- tin of tuna
- packet of beef jerky or
- mini-salami sticks,
- tin of baked beans or spaghetti.
We have been advised that fresh fruit and vegetables are okay to take for the first legs of the journey on the plane, but students may not be able to take it off. So, they would have to make sure they eat it while flying (or in the airport before boarding the flight to Canberra).
Keep in mind the COLD weather when preparing clothing for your student.
Students will be participating in snow play during their stay. Please ensure they have appropriate clothing for this activity.
Students can take one 23kg bag to check in and their day bag is for their carry-on luggage.
*** There is no volume limit on the water bottle that a student brings.
Restriction only applies for international flights.
Filtered drinking water stations are scattered around the airport, including all car parks, pick up and drop off areas and the terminals. Staff will use this map: terminal maps – it’s interactive and shows where the water refill stations are, amongst other things.

Students are not permitted to bring any digital devices to camp. However, they are welcome to bring a disposable camera to capture memories during their time away. Please note that only traditional disposable cameras (which do not produce digital images) are permitted. These will require photo development at a store, which will be the responsibility of families.
We encourage you to talk with your child about taking appropriate photos while at camp.
Mobile Phones

As per the CapSDE Student Code of Conduct, students are not permitted to bring their mobile phones or electronic devices on camp.
Any mobile phones or electronic devices will be placed into the care of teachers and handed back to parents upon arrival back from camp.
