Day for Daniel 2024
This October 25 marked 20 years of Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day.
Child safety is everyone’s responsibility. It’s crucial to educate children on recognising unsafe situations, reacting appropriately, and empowering them to report abuse and seek help.
Some of our students went all out in support of Day for Daniel 😊

Year 2
This term, our Year 2 students took on the exciting task of drawing pictures from given instructions as part of their writing lessons.
They are learning to write in the procedure genre, focusing on the importance of clear, step-by-step directions. By following instructions to create their drawings, the students are developing a better understanding of how to sequence their ideas logically and use precise language.
It’s wonderful to see their creativity come to life while they build these important skills!

Science
Year 7 Science Students Dive into Earth's Cosmic Cycles
This term, Year 7 Science students are embarking on an exciting journey through space as they explore the intricate relationships between Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. These lessons are designed to help students understand the natural cycles that affect life on Earth, using both physical models and virtual simulations to bring these celestial concepts to life.

One key area of focus is learning how Earth’s tilt and its position relative to the Sun create seasonal changes. Students are using models and simulations to explain how the intensity of sunlight varies across the Earth’s surface, causing the distinctive weather patterns of our seasons.
In addition to exploring seasonal changes, students are also studying the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun on Earth’s oceans, learning how these forces create tides. Through investigation of the Moon’s position relative to the Sun, they’re discovering how this relationship drives tidal variations, such as spring and neap tides.
The students are also learning about the cyclic patterns of lunar phases and eclipses and have enjoyed using Oreos to model the moon phases.

As part of the curriculum, students are also being introduced to the work of Wang Zhenyi, a remarkable female scholar from 18th-century China. Wang Zhenyi is known for her pioneering experiments on lunar eclipses, and her studies have inspired students to explore scientific inquiry and the importance of perseverance in understanding the world around them.
Through these engaging activities, Year 7 students are not only building a strong foundation in Earth and space science but are also developing critical thinking skills by exploring historical contributions to science.
Be sure to ask your child about their discoveries in class – it’s a universe of learning!

Sports Person of the year award 2024
CapSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.
The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.
Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual achievement. Do not place all achievements on the one form.
At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.
Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CapSDE Sportsperson of the year. Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.
* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.
* Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised 'regional school sport' and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
