Teams 2025

Teams Update:- Thank-you to all staff and families who have been a part of the Teams trial so far. Your feedback is helping the school to troubleshoot issues, ahead of full rollout, in 2025.

The next phase, involves asking all CapSDE teaching staff, to nominate and run a class through Teams. The purpose of the trial is to build Microsoft Teams competence amongst teachers and students, and to iron out potential issues with the platform, ahead of all lessons being run through Teams, in 2025. Please keep an eye on your e-mails, and listen to instructions from teachers, in the coming weeks.

As with all aspects of learning at CapSDE, staff, students, and Home Tutors will be required to work, study, and act in accordance with our Code of Conduct. We draw your attention to Appendix B Online Lesson Expectations and Protocols for Students, and expect all students to maintain excellent behaviour. The school’s core values of Accountability, Integrity, Respect, Positive Relationships, and Resilience remain at the forefront of all we do.

In accordance with Week One’s SZine Teams update, Home Tutor sessions will be offered during our Week Seven Mini-school, and again during the Home Tutor Induction Days in 2025. To attend next week’s Mini-school session, please login HERE at 10:30AM on Monday 11th November. Picasso Cows Program

The Discovery Dairy Picasso Cows Program is a curriculum program run by Dairy Australia designed to educate primary school children about the Australian dairy industry and the health and nutrition benefits of dairy foods as part of a balanced diet.

Part of the Picasso Cows Program involves schools applying for and being selected to receive a white almost life-sized fibreglass cow to decorate and design!

CSDE was lucky enough to receive one cow for each campus!   Whilst Rockhampton received theirs a little while ago, Emerald’s cow has finally made it!  During mini-school, students will have the opportunity to decorate the Emerald cow as part of their week's program and Rockhampton will be putting the finishing touches on theirs.

The cow gets to stay on the Rockhampton and Emerald campus on display!

Below are some winning entries from other schools that have participated in the program.

Year 3 HASS and Maths

In Year 3 Mathematics this term we have been focussing on our multiplication facts for the 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s.

We have also been working out what a unit fraction looks like and the mathematical language of numerator and denominator.

Year Three HASS

This Semester in Geography, the Year Threes and their trusty learning companion “Travelling Teddy”, have navigated their way across the Australian continent and overseas to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. To wrap up the year, we are all preparing ‘personal projects’ about a place of personal significance, to apply our learnings in a meaningful way. Here are a random selection of a few in the first-draft stages…can you guess which students they relate to?  All will be revealed during the final sessions of HASS this term, when we will be sharing these projects across the cohort.

HPE, Arts and Technology

This term, our HPE, Arts, and Technology departments have been busy with creativity and hands-on learning.

In HPE, students are exploring new ways to stay active. Athletics sock put, dance fitness and skipping are just a few of our choices this term. As well as understand the importance of health, nutrition and ensuring our mental well-being is in check.

Our Arts classes are thriving as students bring their unique talents to life, expressing themselves through visual art portraits, , drama performances and stage design, and music compilations. Meanwhile, in Technology, students are diving into the world of digital solutions, programming, and design, building essential skills for our rapidly evolving world. From Python codes to kite flying, our students are working hard and solving problems.

Don’t forget next week is Mini school and have we got a jam packed week of fun, design and innovation. We have the swimming carnival as well as drama, arts and design guest speakers to expertly guide you through your activities. We’re proud of our students’ enthusiasm and can’t wait to see their continued growth!

Year 11 Visual Arts

Last week, our students had been diving into the vibrant world of Graffiti Art with Mrs Lomas and Mr Tregilles!

They created unique designs of their names or nicknames in a graffiti-inspired style, incorporating personal elements to make each piece truly their own. Using their favourite colours, hobbies, and interests, they explored how to tell a story visually.

This project also encouraged them to experiment with the elements of art, including colour, shape, line, space, and pattern. Mr Tregilles gave a practical demonstration in the team-teaching lesson and produced an expressive creation on canvas using paint pens –  thank you Mrs Lomas!

Year 10 HPE

In our recent Year 10 HPE class, students took on the standing broad jump challenge, a skill that showcases explosive power and lower body strength. One of our standout jumpers, Mark Aquino, demonstrated impressive form and power.

The standing broad jump is more than just a leap forward, it’s a test of explosive power. This skill primarily engages the legs and core, challenging muscles like the glutes, hamstrings, and quadriceps to work together in a powerful, coordinated movement. The standing broad jump highlights the importance of both strength and timing, allowing students to test their ability to generate force and control their body through a full range of motion.

Year 9 Tessellation Artworks Inspired by M.C. Escher

Last term, our Year 9 Visual Art students have been exploring the captivating world of tessellations, inspired by the work of M.C. Escher. Through a blend of digital tools and hand-drawing techniques, students experimented with colour, line, shape, and repetition to create their own unique tessellation artworks.

Each piece demonstrates a balance of technical skill and creativity, reflecting their understanding of complex patterns and visual harmony. We are thrilled to showcase these beautiful artworks, which highlight the students' dedication and artistic growth!

Year 8 Design and Technology

In 8 Digital Technologies this term we’re continuing on with our coding unit from last term. We’re wrapping up the year by creating a choose your own adventure game. Each student has created their own story that reacts to what you choose and we’re having fun with these games. Students are soon going to be able to have their draft games available to play, so make sure to check in with your student to game with them and maybe get some nostalgia for those choose your own adventure books turned digital.

In 8 Design Technologies this term we’re looking at the art of designing an experience. For our students we’re looking at designing a party, but this skill will equip them for being able to treat themselves and others to wonderful experiences for any occasion. If your student reaches out and asks for a party this summer holidays, know that they’ll have thought of every detail and be able to make a treat for everybody, from planning to clean up it will all be designed to be amazing.

Students had to create Party Menus taking into account special guest dietary needs and reveal their part theme.

Year 10 Health

This term, our Year 10 Health students have been working on creating health campaigns designed to raise awareness of key health issues within our school community. Each student has selected a topic—such as eating disorders, gaming addiction, obesity, anxiety, depression, loneliness, or the importance of sleep and water intake—and is developing a campaign aimed at promoting understanding and positive change among their peers.

Below are some of the results from our surveys. Through this project, students are not only learning about these critical health areas but also exploring ways to support the health, safety, and well-being of themselves and others. Their campaigns are a great opportunity for them to make a meaningful impact in our school!

Year 9 Tiny Home Designs

This semester year 9 students designed a tiny home to address real world need for innovative sustainable housing solutions to meet the needs of a changing society. Some students produced their prototypes digitally and one student made a cardboard sample.

Term 4 Art QCIA

This term in Art, our Year 11 and 12 QCIA students have been diving into the world of watercolour painting in a 5-week program. They began by studying the colour wheel, discovering how colours interact to create harmony and balance in their compositions.

Students explored painting scenes of nature and landscapes, capturing the beauty of the world around them. After mastering these fundamentals, they moved on to select their own subject matter, allowing for personal expression and creative freedom in their work.

Sports Person of the year award 2024

CapSDE annually acknowledges the sporting achievements of a Primary and Secondary Student, who has excelled throughout the year at the end of year awards.

The presentation of the Sports Person of the Year Award goes to the student who has accumulated the most amount of points throughout the year in their various sporting achievements.

Parents are asked to advise the school throughout the year of the sporting achievements by completing this online form. Scores are based on events, the level of the event (district, regional, state, national etc) and the students placing within those events. You will need to complete the form for each individual achievement. Do not place all achievements on the one form.

At the end of the year, points are collated, and the winner announced.

Information to note:
* School sports are what counts for CapSDE Sportsperson of the year.  Students are recognised for their achievement in other non-school fields; however, these achievements are not part of the accumulation of points towards the CSDE Sportsperson of the year.

* You should list the highest level that your student has represented in that sport, noting that the points are only entered if the student represented, and not if they were selected and did not attend.

*  Unfortunately, camp-drafting, is not a recognised 'regional school sport' and so would not apply for Sportsperson of the year.
