Principal's Pen

Dear Students, Home Tutors, Parents, Guardians, and Teachers,

As we reach Week 7, I can truly say it’s one of the busiest and most vibrant times at our school! Across both the Emerald and Rockhampton campuses, Mini-school is in full swing, filled with activities, learning, and a real sense of community connection. There’s so much happening, and as I always say, it’s the little things that make a big difference. This week, I will split my time between Emerald on Monday and Tuesday, and Rockhampton from Wednesday through Friday.

Today, Monday 11th November 2024, we commemorated Remembrance Day across both campuses. In Emerald, I had the privilege of attending the morning assembly, thoughtfully led by our Primary school leaders. Special guests Mr. Noel Mallyon and Mr. Bryan Ottone shared the importance of "remembering to remember" — a message that resonated with our whole school community. Later in the morning, our Emerald Year 3-6 students joined the Cenotaph service near the Emerald Town Hall. Their respectful behaviour was a credit to our school and their families. I extend my gratitude to our dedicated teachers for organising and supervising, as well as to the supportive home tutors, parents, and grandparents who helped transport students to this meaningful event. A special thank you goes to our Emerald Primary school leaders, Sophie, Wylie, and Libby, for laying a wreath with great care and respect.

This week is especially significant for our Year 6 and Year 12 students. For our Year 6s, it’s their final Mini-school as Primary students, and we hope they make the most of these last moments before they move on to new adventures in secondary school. For some of our home tutors, this is also a bittersweet moment as they complete their time with us while their children transition to boarding school or other secondary settings.

For our Year 12 students, this week is “Leavers’ Week,” marking the culmination of their school journey. Friday, the 15th of November 2024, will be their final day, and we wish them all the best as they prepare to take the next steps in their lives. I also want to acknowledge the unwavering support of home tutors who have been instrumental in helping students reach this important milestone. The guidance and commitment you have provided have been invaluable to your students' success. I look forward to celebrating our Year 12s' achievements at the Year 7-12 Secondary Awards and Graduation ceremony on Thursday from 9:30 am at CQU, and later that evening at the Year 12 formal — a wonderful occasion to mark the end of their school journey.

Our leadership team, teachers, and teacher aides are also on the move this week, traveling between campuses to support students and make this a memorable week for everyone.

As I’ve mentioned, we have a full itinerary planned: we welcome visiting authors and the Capras, swimming lessons and the Secondary Swimming Carnival, a Colour Run, Book Fair, dress-up events, a Primary school disco, Barefoot Bowls for our Year 12s, Galactic Donuts, a STEM excursion to CQU, Theatre Sports, and so much more. Each of these activities brings moments for students to learn, grow, and celebrate together.

I hope everyone enjoys this remarkable week!

Warm regards,
Amanda Rynne

Picasso Cows Program

The Discovery Dairy Picasso Cows Program is a curriculum program run by Dairy Australia designed to educate primary school children about the Australian dairy industry and the health and nutrition benefits of dairy foods as part of a balanced diet.

Part of the Picasso Cows Program involves schools applying for and being selected to receive a white almost life-sized fibreglass cow to decorate and design!

CSDE was lucky enough to receive one cow for each campus!   Whilst Rockhampton received theirs a little while ago, Emerald’s cow has finally made it!  During mini-school, students will have the opportunity to decorate the Emerald cow as part of their week's program and Rockhampton will be putting the finishing touches on theirs.

The cow gets to stay on the Rockhampton and Emerald campus on display!

Below are some winning entries from other schools that have participated in the program.
