⚠️ Returning Art Resources during Mini-school 🧑🎨🎨
As we approach Mini-School in Week 7, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind families to return any borrowed art resources. Many students have had materials at home—some since 2023—and we would love to see these valuable supplies make their way back to school.
Returning these resources ensures that all students can continue to enjoy creative activities and that our art program remains well-equipped for future projects.
Please check at home and send any items back with your child during Mini-School Week. These can be handed in directly to the lovely ladies at the administration office.
Thank you for helping us keep our art supplies organised and sustainable – every returned item makes a difference!
Preparing for Pathways: VET and Senior Schooling at CapSDE
At Capricornia School of Distance Education (CapSDE), our Senior Schooling and Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs are empowering students to explore future pathways, gain industry-recognised skills, and develop confidence for life beyond school. Through a range of engaging and hands-on learning opportunities, students are developing essential employability skills and gaining practical experience across a variety of courses — including Aviation (Remote Pilot), Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways, and other career-focused qualifications.
Our VET and senior programs focus on supporting students to become job-ready, independent learners with strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Whether students are preparing for university, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce, our teachers and trainers work closely with them to set goals, monitor progress, and celebrate success. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by our students highlight the strength of our school culture and the opportunities available for every learner to achieve their personal best.
Congratulations to Our First Certificate III in Aviation Graduates!
We’re proud to celebrate our first group of Certificate III in Aviation students, who began their studies last year as the inaugural cohort and have now successfully completed the course.
These dedicated students have developed a strong understanding of aviation laws, air safety regulations, and the rules for operating drones. Throughout the course, they gained valuable hands-on experience flying drones and preparing for real-world aviation applications.
Their hard work will soon culminate in sitting for their Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and Aviation Radio Licence assessments on November 13th 2025.
Congratulations to all our Aviation students on reaching this exciting milestone — your commitment and passion for aviation have truly taken flight!

Exploring Innovation in Agriculture Education
Recently, Ian Southerland (Teacher – Geography and Agricultural Practices) and Linda Hinchliffe (Vocational Trainer – Certificate I in Agriculture) attended a professional development program at Proserpine State High School. The event was organised through the Gateway to Industry Schools Program – Agribusiness and delivered by CQUniversity Australia.
The professional learning day focused on integrating emerging technologies into agricultural education. Participants explored Teachable Machines—an accessible artificial intelligence tool that allows students to create photo and video recognition models. This technology can be applied to identify plants, assess produce quality, and streamline agricultural processes, demonstrating how digital tools can support smarter and more efficient farming practices.
In the afternoon, attendees toured Tassal’s Gregory River Prawn Farm, where they observed firsthand how innovative systems and technology are being used to enhance aquaculture production. The visit provided valuable industry insights and strengthened the connection between classroom learning and real-world applications in the agriculture industry
Ian and Linda greatly appreciated the learning experience and left feeling inspired by the potential of technology in aquaculture. They can’t wait to share their new knowledge with students and are excited about the opportunities the future of agricultural industry holds.

Taking To The Skies!
Last week, Mr Bruggeman, Miss Rowbotham and Mrs Baggett took to the skies to test the latest drone technology as part of the upcoming Certificate III in Aviation program. The team trialled three advanced RPAS units, each designed for specific real-world applications, completing our enterprise fleet:
Drone 1 – Rescue Drone – Drone Name: Piccard
Drone 2 – Search and Rescue Drone – Drone Name: Jane Way
Drone 3 – Thermal Drone – Drone Name: Capri
Each model brings unique capabilities, including high-intensity lighting, thermal imaging, and precision material drop functionality, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with industry-grade equipment. These innovative drones will play an important role in developing key operational and safety skills within the Certificate III in Aviation course.
The field testing highlighted both the impressive performance of the drones and the enthusiasm of our trainers as they explored new ways this technology can enhance emergency response and field-based veterinary operations.
Stay tuned as we continue integrating these cutting-edge tools into our aviation training and expand real-world learning opportunities for our students.
Certificate II in Self-Awareness and Development
As we conclude the semester for our Year 12 students completing the Certificate II in Self-Awareness and Development, each student had the opportunity to deliver a two-minute presentation on a topic they are passionate about.
Year 12 student Lauren Harvey chose to speak about Mental Health, sharing her personal journey of growth and how learning to say “Yes!” has helped her overcome challenges and create positive change in her life.
Lauren’s presentation truly reflected the spirit of the Certificate II in Self-Awareness and Development, a program designed to help students recognise their potential, strengthen resilience, and value the small yet powerful moments that shape who they are.
This inspiring course continues to empower young people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others, supported by a remarkable group of students who bring the program to life each year.

Senior Humanities Update
This term Year 11 general subject students (Accounting, Ancient History, Business, Economics, Geography, Legal Studies & Modern History) began their year 12 studies of Unit 3.
Social and Community Studies students are working on their final assessment piece – Digital Technology and Wellbeing.
Year 11 SCS - Exploring Digital Technology and Its Impact
This term, our class has explored how digital technology influences every part of our lives, from our wellbeing and relationships to the way we connect with our communities. We’ve examined both the opportunities and the challenges of living in a connected world, including topics like cyberbullying, online safety, privacy protection, and e-waste. Through discussions and activities, students have learned how everyday choices online can have real social and legal consequences.
To bring their learning to life, students have designed a range of digital posters, social media posts, and campaign messages that highlight key safety and wellbeing themes. These pieces reflect their unique perspectives and practical solutions for building a safer online world.

IA1 Assessments – Year 11 (moving into Year 12 2026)
Some subjects (Ancient History, Geography, Modern History and Legal Studies), Year 11 students will be completing their summative IA1 (first year 12 assessment) in week 8 of this term.
- Exams have been posted to exam supervisors this week.
- Please check in with your exam supervisor and students to ensure they are prepared for the upcoming assessment.
It is vital that Year 12 students are aware of assessment timelines for all their subjects.
Farewell to Year 12 Students
As our Year 12 students prepare to begin their external exams next week, we want to take a moment to acknowledge their hard work, resilience, and dedication throughout their senior years. We wish each of you the very best in your exams and beyond. May this next chapter bring success, growth, and exciting new opportunities.

SchoolTV - Parenting Styles

Special Report - Substance Use & Addiction
Substance use and addiction are complex issues that can affect young people in many different ways. While some may experiment out of curiosity or peer influence, others may use substances as a way to manage stress, anxiety or emotional pain. What may begin as occasional use can sometimes become a pattern that impacts mood, motivation and wellbeing. The developing teenage brain is particularly vulnerable to the effects of alcohol, vaping and drugs, making early use more likely to lead to harm.
For many families, understanding substance use means looking beyond the behaviour to what might be driving it. Risk-taking is a normal part of adolescence, but for some young people, it can also be a signal that they are struggling to cope. Substances can offer temporary relief, but they can also mask underlying issues such as loneliness, low self-esteem or poor mental health. When left unrecognised or unsupported, substance use can interfere with school performance, relationships and emotional development, leading to more serious challenges later in life.
This edition of SchoolTV guides families to help young people develop resilience, self-awareness and the skills to make healthy, informed choices that protect their wellbeing into adulthood.
